Is It a Good Time to Build a PC?

Hello there,

I have been looking to build a PC for a while now, but with all the confusing RAM and GPU prices, I'm not sure if this is a good time to build one. I just want to build a mid-tier PC for gaming and productivity (programming and maybe to learn game development). What do you guys think? Should I build one now? Thanks guys :)

  • Sure, RAM is always expensive, and there won't be any new generation of GPU's for a while yet according to Nvidia's CEO, 1070's are good value.

    • RAM is not always expensive, it's price goes all over the place.

    • Nvidia CEO is most likely bluffing, as there is still a very large supply of cards in the market. It's anyone's guess as to what the phrase "a long time" means.

I'd recommend checking out here, there's a few pre-built systems recently that are decently priced.

PCPartPicker is a valuable tool if you do plan to custom build one.

It's 1.50pm now, so yes , now is a good time. Most shop close early on Saturday, so be quick

  • Not sure if this is a builders, buyers or investors market

  • Not a good time, rains slot in Sydney

Maybe, suss out prebuilt first, make sure the case is huge for room for extra drives, gpus etc in the future anyway. The prices for barebones cases are crazy enough

  • Sup, kind of had the same idea. Bought about $1300 worth of components. Think the system requirements for learning game dev and programming are pretty low, unless you are intermediate/advanced/have specific requirements. Could have gotten by with an older $400 or so system quite easily. Think the other poster's idea of buying a basic system and then slowly upgrading is correct.
