30

Evening all

Bunnings Prospect have the Envirotouch timer based switches on clearance for $15.00 (down from $69.00).

Price will vary between stores, as they were on clearance for $50.00 at Bunnings Woodville.

From the manufacturers website:

”The envirotouch™ is a range of intelligent, timer based switches which allows easy, point-of-use control of lighting and electrical devices. It includes multiple preset, countdown timer options or cycles, so with the simple press of a button it will automatically turn off the appliance, after the desired time. For example, select 60 minutes for classroom lights or 30 minutes for a heater, and they will switch off automatically.”

  • Great idea, but having to get an electrician to hard-wire it kills the deal. Any ideas on a plug-and-play countdown timer?

    • Sure: Wire-up a plug-in sOnOff WiFi controlled switch (cheapest source seems to be via the AliExpress app), eg, WiFi control via an app, also measure power consumption, control via a handheld remote, etc. most under $25)

Plug to (your home 240v outlet); other end to your choice of sOnOff switch, 2nd wire to switch’s output a socket.
Maybe cut a short extension cord in half for plug + socket, that do not need to be wired-up.

Dunno if you’d still need an electrician to wire the 2 ext’n cord pieces to the sOnOff switch, but - if using the assembly on a part-time basis, there’s hope that your wouldn’t.

I’d get the assembly’s wires checked for leaks, etc. [Annually?]. The test-Pass label could give it a level of correctness, if you’re ever checked.

Disclaimer: I am Not an Electrician, nor a Lawyer. ;-)

Finally, make sure your House Insurance isn’t invalidated by any of the above.

      • Saw an sOnOff that measures power usage, for under $15 (app AliExpress, shop around)

PS In case it wasn’t clear, in my orig. post, timer (& lotsa other) functions are all in the app.

I think they also have sOnOff switches that run on low DC voltages, that could power a relay
or switch eg 12 v charging power or devices, like radios, garden lights, etc.

Also, sOnOff app interworks with a large number of other devices, designed
to an international spec. Details on their web site.

  • Saw at this price in Brisbane a few weeks ago (not enough stock for a deal)
    Max 10A resistive load
3 or 4 types available for different timing tasks.

  • Got one for $69, blew up in a fortnight.

    • what did you plug into it?
