Harvey Norman Surfacebook 2 Help Please

I bought a 13.5 inch i5, 256GB, Microsoft Surfacebook 2 at Harvey Norman store 5 days ago for $1977 after a 10% student discount. Today they have dropped the price to $1754. The price difference is $223.

I have not opened the product and when I went in and asked for the price difference, quoting the 7 day price match guarantee, I was told by the store manager that he cannot do it as I had purchased with student discount. He said he needs to talk with Microsoft and then will give an answer. I even requested to return the unopened product and get a refund and buy the same for $1754. He declined this option too.

Has anyone come across a similar situation? Fellow ozbargainers help and advice is highly appreciated. Thanks.

From their Refund, return and Repair policy:
"Please choose carefully as refunds are not normally provided where you have simply changed your mind, made a wrong selection or simply found the goods cheaper elsewhere. We recommend you carefully preview any orders before adding them to your shopping cart and proceeding with your order."

      • How is that relevant to a price match guarantee? None of those apply

  • I am just asking to price match with their own new price. This gives me back $223. I am not sure why they cannot do

    • Look at their price match policy. See if theres anything about invalidating it because of the student discount.
If theres nothing it could the manager just being shifty.

    • open it then say its faulty. I have a mate who recently bought a laptop from HN as well and was able to exchange for store credit because of 'battery issues'.

AFAIK harvey norman do not accept any returns for change of mind or pretty much any other reason on earth. if they did, I'd just buy 300k of goods and return them after a few days, just to give them time to reorder/restock… I'd justify that by saying I need my money back to pay the gst on stuff I bought online from overseas…

and thats why I prefer going to TGG :)

Hn does not have to refund a change of mind. Which is essentially what you are doing, returning it and purchasing at the lower price. Anyways good luck to you.

The HN price match only applies to a competitor price. I does not cover when HN drops its own price.

I once bought earphones and didn't want them. I then looked at reviews and discovered that they only recharged from a pc and not the wall. I went in and said not fit for purpose and they had to give in. They fished around for me to give another excuse but I stuck to it

Google reviews on the surface book . Find out something that makes it not fit for purpose and stick to it
