I need a laptop for blogging, a bit of video editing and random internet browsing. I was told to get an i5 minimum so trying to decide between these. I want to spend less than $900.

Not the HP because it has a woeful 1366 x 768 display.
You might be interested in a Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming, which is $999 (over budget) but it has faster clocked HQ (but older gen) processor that can handle video editing tasks, and also a GTX 1050 Ti GPU that can help out with CUDA accelerated stuff.

As scrimshaw has pointed out, that HP has an inferior screen which will be noticeable on a 15in display.
Only problem with the Dell I can see is that it uses a HDD instead of SSD. If it has a second harddrive bay you could install one easily enough.
I've also noticed that the Dell has a DVD drive, is it something you would use?

Lenovo laptops seem to be pretty well constructed. That could have changed but all the ones I have used seemed quite robust.
