Huawei MateBook X Pro - Rated The Verge's Best Laptop (So Far) of 2018

Hi all,

Any info/help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at getting myself a new laptop (current MacBook Air 2013 user). Was considering the new MBP until I came into sight of the MateBook X Pro. There are two versions. The cheaper version comes with an i5, 8GB of RAM, no dedicated GPU, and a 256GB SSD. However, for 1499USD (just under $2K AUD) you can get the other model which has the following:

  1. Intel i7-8550U
  2. 16GB LPDDR3 RAM
  3. NVIDIA GeForce MX150 2GB GDDR5
  4. 512GB PCIe SSD
  5. 3000 x 2000 3:2 3K Touchscreen

I'm a big fan of the screen, the i7 addition of the USB A port, and the build quality. Don't know about pricing/availability in Australia yet, however it's listed on the US Amazon site (https://www.amazon.com/Huawei-MateBook-Signature-i7-8550U-Ge…) but with import fees and shipping it looks like it's going to surpass the cost of an MBP.

Anyone have any suspected info on when we could get our hands on the MateBook X Pro? If not it's closest competitor?

Thanks everyone!

Huawei MateBook X Pro Laptop i5-8250U 1.6GHz 8GB 256GB for $1500AUD all up sounds pretty reasonable. Would you guys risk it? Coz returns and warranty would be a headache if you needed it.

    • Out of stock already

  • I actually saw the laptop being used by an Employee of Huawei, I think it’s actually a pretty decent laptop, I need to switch from my MacBook to a windows
laptop and this looked pretty good. I was thinking of ordering through Amazon and use forwarding services to get this sent. Anyone else have any idea how to get this any cheaper?

Huawei have been taken off the vendor list for the 5g rollout sighting network vulnerabilities I'm not denying it's a good machine but when governments around the world are dropping them on mass you have to question what's in them that causes concern.

I've seen first hand what they can do with other products and even the team of in house engineers with superuser accounts don't have full access told me earthing I needed to know, I've owned a few things from them and never again. something I put all my info into and don't have control of hard pass till their stance changes.

This is normal, what exactly is your problem with this form of access?

    • What exactly is the reason that huawei is being blocked in Australia?
