PC for AutoCAD

Hi all,

I would like to build a computer for Autocad. Please advise what spec would suit for budget of $2k?

I already have the monitor, keyboard and mouse.

It's mainly for work purpose only.

CPU: intel 8700
PSU:
Case:
Motherboard:
Ram:

Thanks

  • GTX1080 :P .. Autocad needs a beefy GPU

  • +1

    Possibly:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-4-7GHz-8GB-1…

    with

    Z370 motherboard upgrade: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/173299414332

    and

    16GB ram upgrade https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/161813007301

Costs $2567 but after 20% it is $2053.60

Price looks good to me but not really sure.

    • Good find … but I think the PSU is a cheapie crap no name brand, part of the case.

I would ask the seller what brand is the PSU and I wouldn't power a GTX1080 with a measly 600W PSU. More like 850W pure juicy power is more like it:P

      Cheers

      • GTX1080 works fine with a 600W psu, as long as its a decent name brand.

My overclocked 1080 and 4.6Ghz 2600k have been running on a corsair 600W for over a year now, no problems whatsoever.

That combo that hogwarts listed would have warranty as its all brand new, so if the PSU shits itself then return it and make them give you a better one.
It should be fine for stock but I wouldn't try overclocking anything….ah bugger it, overclock everything and test it, you might get lucky!

        • Fair enough.

          I wouldn't get a 600W PSU with a barge pole .. I wouldn't care the brand name …. and yes.. I do have a GTX1080 too!

          Each to their own.

          Cheers :-)

        • @vinni9284: No worries, but just remember the 1080 isn't a power hog like older graphics cards, its quite frugal compared to earlier gen cards. I've measured my AC input power draw when playing Farcry 5 and it doesn't get above 360W.
Factor in the minimum 80% efficiency of my PSU and you are looking at ~290W total system power draw.

Perfectly fine for a 600W PSU.

I'd measure the 12V rails for more accuracy but I'm happy with the result I got.

        • @Cartman2530:

          I understand.

My rationale for a larger PSU is for future expansion and added extras, such as more HDD's, GPU's, LED lighting, Closed Water Cooling e.g Corsair H115i etc …

          Cheers

  • tyb1987, are you doing any 3D modeling? Like in Inventor or Solidworks? Regardless, you should be able to get away with a less powerful (and cheaper) graphics card like a 1050ti. Thats still good enough to game if you want to at 1080p.

I use a workstation at work with a 1050ti in it and its plenty powerful for Inventor! you can also get half height versions of them that fit in small form factor PCs as well
