  • Is this still an actual German company or is it just rights to a name that has been bought and sold 8 times?

    • +1

Thats what I am trying to find out but given the price I would assume so.

    • +1

Definitely the latter, their days of quality products is long over. Be wary, you get what you pay for.

Their website mentions a lot about "brand marketing" so I think it might be the same company but they'll put their name on any OEM's stuff.

"In 2010 the Blaupunkt Global Brand Community started with its first brand partner assembling and distributing TV sets on the European market. Since this time many new partners joined the Blaupunkt Brand Community and make the brand visible in many regions and categories all over the world."

"The 2011 take-over effectively left Blaupunkt as a managed brand name with all production outsourced to China" from wikipedia. All the old factories are owned by bosch. They then went bankrupt in 2015 and liquidated everything, I'm assuming a chinese manufacturer gobbled up the remains of the company.

Atpode is the game-changing alternative Android app store… well clearly 🤣

  • Anyone know what HDR standards (if any) this TV uses? Went nuts on Google and couldn't find anything.

Funny… this tv looks absolutely identical to the Kogan one. Maybe Kogan just rebranded it -

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-65-agora-smart-4k-led-tv-…

Even the reference to 9000 in the model, the use of the term air-mouse, the bezel and stand. Only difference I can spot is the fact that the Kogan can USB record, whereas this one cannot for some reason…

  • Just a cheapy with no HDR..

According to wikipedia BLAUPUNKT is still a German company but…
"After the Second World War, Blaupunkt moved its headquarters and production to the city of Hildesheim. More recently, the majority of Blaupunkt products are manufactured overseas, with large manufacturing centers in Tunisia (speakers) and Malaysia (speakers and electronics). Since 2011 however, the entire lineup is Chinese sourced."

The scary thing is the word "sourced" and not "manufacture" is used which in my mind means they stick the Blaupunkt logo on some generic chinese made product and sell it. Given the cheap price, I was not entirely surprised.

Blaupunkt used to make high end electronics back in the CRT days, now they are shoddy as hell, just another re-branded OEM.

  • "Fate Bankruptcy liquidation 2016"

Yeah, someone has bought the name. DO NOT BUY.

  • How the mighty have fallen

  • Was considering, but I think the Aldi 65" (dumb TV) with a Vodafone TV is a better deal.
