Tevion 10-in-1 Universal Remote Control $10 from Aldi from 27 Jan

170

Not bad for $10 bucks. Might have to get one for the bedroom.

  • Control 10 devices from one remote
  • Learning function
  • Backlit keypad and LCD screen
  • Calculator function
  • Batteries included

Looks like from the picture it might also have macro function. that would be great for $10!

  • I had a close look and couldn't find anything that resembled a macro button. It would be great if it did have one. I think I'll buy one and have a play with it. For $10 you can't go wrong. My old Zensonic is really starting to show it's age.

Picture in catalogue is a bit clearer than website pic. From what I can make out, far right hand button on 2nd last row is called "MACRO". All 2nd last rwo buttons are: PIP_FAV_SLEEP_MACRO. Last row buttons are SWAP_INPUT_TV/AUX(?)_ASPECT.

Looks OK for $10, and backlit display is a nice surprise, although it is not auto backlit like Harmony remotes (backlight goes on as soon as remote is picked up, great feature for dark home theatre room).

I agree billy_bob. I looked at the catalogue and the macro button is there. The second button on the bottom row is ttx/mix. I don't know what it stands for; I could only read the 'ttx' part and did a Google search for 'ttx button'. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_3qi0IuBA5G8/Ssf-0jogWYI/AAAAAAAAD3…

It's great that it has macro function! For $10 it looks like a nice toy to have a play with. If it has volume punchthrough it'll be the buy of the year; not that it worries me as I run everything through the amp.

Thanks for the heads up Rocket!

        • My pleasure TonyP ;)

  • Haha take that Harmony one (sarcasm). Nice price though.

Calculator function ? Great for calculating those Easy Payments of those late night infomercials ! :)
    Nice price.

      Time for Zumba!!!

  • Have any one used them? Can they be programmed thru computer like harmony and support a vast devices?

  • +1

I used one before, old model. It works fine with popular brands.surprisingly it did not support their own brand SD set top box. And it lasts for couple of months after warranty expires. You can play with it and return within 60 days for a refund.. can' t go wrong for 10 dollars.

  • There are heaps of good $10 deals this week at Aldi there is this one the 8gb sd card and the Rice Cooker all $10 in celebration of Aldi is 10ys old.

Last time I tried to get a good deal cataloge item I turned up at 10am on sale day ("sorry we don't have any yet", 10.30am next store "Oh Sorry we sold out" The other problem is Aldi don't take call or list store numbers.

    • Considering Aldi are meant to put the products out on Wednesday, it seems the delivery truck was delayed for some reason.

You guys in NSW, QLD, and VIC are very lucky to have an all-in-one store for bargain shopping hang out place. If only this mob came to WA or at least have some sort of online shopping available to WA, I think they'll do pretty well. But oh well, we can only hope!

Aldi is not quite as exciting as you might think. There is no continuity of products… the really popular specials go within hours, but some over-priced items hang about cluttering up the place until they decide to start marking them down and down to get rid of them.

For example, in my local Aldi there is still a HUGE pile (like 2m high) of boxes of unicycles. There aren't that many circus performers in our area, so they've been a slow mover and finally are starting to get marked down after a month or so.

Of course whilst the specials are cool, they just use them to draw you in so you buy the groceries, which there is a tiny range compared to the likes of Coles or Woolworths.

        I disagree.

Aldi have specific schedules for when they are going to bring products back.

You need to understand that Aldi works with suppliers to get cheap products.

But, for example they recently got a cheap Laptop, but at the same time they had a washing machine that was cheap, but not cheap enough to make it worth getting a less known brand. They do their best, and if something doesn't sell they won't resell it until they can give you a lower price.

You can't expect them to know what everyone wants, and you can't expect them to sell something below a supplier price.

One thing about Aldi, they do their research, and I have NEVER seen a product at Aldi that wasn't the cheapest available, the only thing left is to figure out if its a Sony level Aldi product, or a less known brand. Aldi make this obvious with their separate TV brands etc, but many products are hard to know, and you rely on the 2 year warranty instead on most of their expensive items.

Aldi have more profit margin on their weekly specials then their groceries. And you would guess so because most of their products are identical or better then Woolworths/Coles while being cheaper.

Not only that, Aldi literally forces the shops around them to lower their price, even if you don't go to Aldi they benefit you.

      • Aldi is not quite as exciting as you might think. There is no continuity of products… the really popular specials go within hours, but some over-priced items hang about cluttering up the place until they decide to start marking them down and down to get rid of them.

Fair enough, and I guess this same issue of getting rid of stock applies to most department stores anyway.

But as a consumer, I'd rather have more options. For example over in the east, you guys have aldi, DFO, costsco, etc which seem to pressure the bigger chains to be competitive. Unfortunately in WA, there don't seem to be enough competition.

      • How Much $$ are these Unicycles?

    • If you need to eat fresh fruit and veg you wouldnt bother going to aldi. If you need a whole bunch of biscuits and softdrink, well, thats another story. You can get away with some cheap meals, but you don't rely on it for dinner. If you are frugal enough to go to Aldi, just buy homebrand at Woolies.

  • Use Medion remotes in the past, and they are very difficult to program. Button labels wear of quickly and LCD difficult to read. Ended up returning some, others the button stopped working. One go replaced under warranty with same older model. After discovering the Logitech Harmony remotes. Now only use them exclusively. They are currently on special at the moment starting at $33 delivered.

Though every time they go on sale its a different model to the previous one. So it would seem they keep changing models all the time.

    • Agreed, Logitech Harmony remotes are in a different league to this and are the way to go to control your "serious" home theatre set up. I would consider this Aldi remote as a good cheap replacement for your TV remote that the kids smashed (as happened to me recently), and it has learning function as a bonus.

  • looks dodgy. spend a few bucks more and get a harmony 300 instead

    • harmony 300 is 3 times as much, doesn't have LCD display or learning function. Also, i have a logitech harmony remote (515) and it's pretty crap. Annoying delays in repsonse, and with my PVR it does 2 actions every button press. Try scrolling down 1 channel, or 1 recording, not possible! $40 attractive paperweight!

Got my Aunty a Scandia remote for xmas, was $20 from Coles. Has LCD and learning like this one, is more attractive than this one. $10 is good stuff though.

      • +1

The reason your learning remote does 2 button presses is because it's been taught wrong. You may have either held down the button on the 'master' remote too long when teaching the Harmony, or not long enough. Remotes differ in the way they send signals when a button is held down - some send the first signal immediately, then pause for between few milliseconds to 1 second, and then continue to send a repeated signal. Some send a repeated signal at regular 'x' millisecond intervals. Your master remote is probably in this league, and you have taught the Harmony 2 (or a double) signal. You need to either press the button quickly, or hold it down continuously until the Harmony tells you it has accepted the signal. Try both methods; one should work.

  • I've lost my original tv remote will this be a worthwhile replacement? From what I know I will need the original to "learn" the functions right? So, no good for me?

    • Did you check out the list in the link above to see if your TV is listed? If it is a major/well known brand, then it is likely to be able to control it.

  • I guess i cant use this for a Media Center Remote?

  • does it do foxtel
    ?

    • I couldn't see why not and I plan to use it for Foxtel, but for $10 I will take the risk if in the unikely event it doesn't.

I grabbed one today. It has a book of codes as thick as the telephone book. Odds on it will control your device! A great buy at $10. It has macro, with up to 16 steps.

    • Good work Tony!

      • +1

It's got a few quirks, and I'm not a big fan of the tactile feel of the centre ring 4 way button - the microswitches are quite hard to push. However, the codes provided worked with a few of my devices, saving manual programming, and it has an auto search feature to find a working code for devices not listed. Another gripe is if you hit the power button twice too quickly, the feature that turns ALL devices on/off activates (and this cannot be disabled). However, for $10, I reckon it's a steal.

Note that you may need to touch the remotes 'nose to nose' when teaching codes, even though the manual specifies a 10 - 50mm gap. Also, if you teach the audio device the signal, volume punchthrough will not work - not a big problem, you'll just have to teach the other devices the audio volume signal. I'm tipping this thread will soon be full of people posting codes for various devices not listed in the manual - here's the first - original Xbox running XBMC is code 0008.

  • I picked one up yesterday……..and it seems OK. Only issue is I cannot get it to work with Foxtel IQ2. Anyone got a code for this? Thanks.
P.S My local Aldi store at Top Ryde will put out the Thursday specials from about 3:30 on Wednesday afternoon. Maybe others do the same. Saved me many a rush on Thursday monring!

    • Stores vary with their stock management. Mine only had them available at the registers from this morning (along with the voice recorders, SD cards ,etc). They wise up esp if people start asking for items before the official start time…

  • got one, nice manual, good finish and control range!
nb, even though it says it can control 10 devices, you can't program all 10 with the learning function, it learnt my tv, pvr, stb but then as i was doing the toppy it said "mem full"! no mention of how much memory it's got, so at least half your devices need to use the built in code library, which is quite extensive, it has Tevion for tv/dvd/blu ray but no Bauhn for it's own pvr!

  • I Checked 3 stores ( looked around next to the $39 Hdmi dvd players ) couldn't find them, then after finding a layed back staff member, I was told they were kept in the office not out on the floor? Anyway they look ok for 10 bucks they are pretty much a like a harmony one rip.Might give it go with the xbox and samsung tv tommorow.

  • bought one yesterday looks good but when I learn my devices had a lot of problem getting all the POWER button to work. I will learn but when press power no joy. Also, some functions get mix up with other device eg when press fastforward on PVR will turn off TV. Will keep for a few days if no improvment then refund.
