I assume you're talking about the referrals we're all doing - apologies if not.
A lot of these comps offer extra entries for referring "friends and family". This one offers one entry just for entering, but another three if someone uses your referral link. We have a method of sharing this around, so each OzB member will use the most recent referral and then add their own to the end of the chain. For example, I used scaryface's and the next person will use mine. There are some common courtesy things here too. If two people do an entry at the same time, it's generally accepted that the second person will miss out, which avoids people being skipped through no fault of their own. Some people will post a comment "Using Xxx's, please hold off" and edit their comment afterward to try and avoid this. It's also good practice to refresh the page immediately before clicking a referral link, to make sure you get the final one in the chain.
You certainly don't have to use referrals - you could just enter with the main link, or use the OP's if you want to give them an extra "thanks". If you don't use the referral and just post your own link, you will be summarily asked to feel bad about your life choices :)

thanks for clearing that up! i thought it would be something along those lines, however the website didnt seem to clearly state it on the main page. i also am wary of these free competitions, mainly because they pass all your details onto marketing companies who then proceed to email and call the crap out of you. i did read this particular competitions fine print and it says they wont pass on your details, but its not like large corporations havent lied before!
