I have bought a few good value Japanese whiskies from this site but this toasted Plum Wine was a present for my wife (it's delicious but a little too sweet for my tastes as a whisky drinker). Got the discount code from a recent wine expo which makes it very good value!

not much bargain there, but your price $65 definitely is!
would this taste something like Choya Umeshu?
yes minus the lovely actual plums!
https://www.mybottleshop.com.au/yamazaki-umeshu-plum-liqueur… $59.99 (when in stock..)
I bought one earlier this year in hong kong less than $300hkd, which is around or less than $50 AUD. not airport, shopping mall, forgot which one either sogo or aeon.
even the 3 years aged choyo plum wine doesn't cost that much.
can you recommend cheap sweet nice choyo plum wine? is that same as choya umeshu?
Yes they are the same.
There is a very nice Aussie made Umeshu, made with a sake base, from Sun Masamune.
http://sun-masamune.com.au/limited-products/dan murphy uses to have those choyo plum wine in jars, i can't see them online anymore, your best chance are japanese restaurants. i'm not sure where else have choyo available to purchase.

found it, give this a try, standard plum wine.
I haven't tried it but do recall it was dramatically cheaper than the Yamazaki Distillers Reserve. In this instance, it is marginally cheaper. Does not sound like a bargain at all to me and probably worth researching quality Japanese plum wines for more reasonably priced alternatives..
One of the best umeshus I've had, very complex and I suspect partly due to using them incredible Yamazaki barrels. Cost me $50 at Don Quijote ;) Nice to know it's available here though!
Anyone wanting to try something I think similar, a bit stronger, and probably cheaper (two bottles for $108 shipped):

Can vouch that this is delicious. Picked it up in Changi airport for about 65aud though.
