Laser Printer with Cheap Replacement Toner Cartridges

I'm looking for a laser printer with cheap replacement toner cartridges. At the moment I need to print around 2000 black and white pages, preferably for under $150, but I'll need to print more in the future.

I only really need a basic mono laser printer with a low cost per page, but some other features I'd want if they don't add too much to the cost (in order of priority) are:
Auto Duplex
Scanner with Document Feeder
Wireless
Scanner with Document Feeder (Duplex)
Colour

Thanks.

do your own research and look up the replacement costs of each cart for the printers you're looking at.

I like brother monos because of the it's reputation for cheaply available toners. Another important 'feature' for me was that apparently, it's a printer that will LET you print even if it has low toner warning. It totally gets my goat when a printer refuses to let me print when in indicates low toner. I'll be the judge of when the document is usable or not.

However, I have yet to test and personally confirm this 'feature' because I haven't hit low toner warnings yet.

can confirm this is the case for the mono.
For colour lazer, it's slightly different. You have to access the hidden menu to turn off the "page count".

      • Good to know. Thanks for the info!

    Colour

That feature will cost at least $300.

    Scanner with Document Feeder

With that, you're looking at the xerox M225dw at $147. Very good price and good printer.

    Auto Duplex
    Wireless
    Mono

Those features are standard in a cheap laser printer.

I have a fuji xerox P265DW. Have been using it for 2 years and costs about 3-4c per page. I'm running the reduced toner setting so it churns out even more pages so I estimate it's costing around 2c a page (excluding cost of paper). Bought it at officeworks when it was $90 or so but now it's $150 and can't be ordered online (I suspect they're retiring it since it's an older model).

  • I'm going through the same thing. My research says that the rated pages per toner cart is at 5% coverage. but realistically you're printing at closer to 10% coverage, in the real world. More if you have some images in there. But they are all rated at 5% coverage per side of printing, so that makes it easier for you to find the cheapest per page anyway. If you print at 10% page coverage then you can halve the quoted page numbers on the toner carts. And that is all per side too btw.

What you want is a laser wireless multifunction printer (MFP), Officeworks have a section just for that but their range is limited and there's a steep Officeworks tax. I'm thinking of springing for the hll3860cdw for colour. it's about 20kg and $550 but about a cent cheaper per page than the cheaper printers, because of the high capacity carts. IIRC it has a 6,000 page per month duty cycle, and up to 40,000 per month if you want to push it. Hopefully I can get some good use out of it. I'll be getting my toner from inkstation or hottoner. I don't know if I can trust myself to refill them myself without making a mess. I really want an A3 printer, but for some reason A3 brings the price of laser way up.

It's so hard to find genuine reviews of laser printers, or YouTube demos, or samples of printouts.

  • I saw this HP Printer promo the other day
