aren’t these the types of units they are getting to ban ……?
I have this model and whilst it is in a large room in the house, upon entering you can smell the gas quite badly. Friends have commented I should get it checked out as it is not normal, but when you burn gas to create heat, the byproduct has to be emitted somewhere and without a flue it goes in the room. Maybe I'll ring Rinnai and check it out…
Good price though!
I have 1 of these Natural Gas Heaters, and oredered a second.
You should not be able to smell the bye products (toxic or non-toxic), such as water vapour , CO2, CO, NO2.
Some information here…

For those who are renters though, there’s no choice if a landlord doesn’t provide a flued heater and won’t give you permission to put in a chimney!
Most people I know have an unflued gas heater in WA, houses that have heater gas points must have vents at regulations. Don't think it is too much of a problem if the heater is operating correctly and should never be able to smell gas.
these unflued ones have lots of sensors and microprocessor and are supposed to burn so efficiently you just get water and CO2.
if something is wrong with a sensor you can have problems …. so yes, they still need to be checked out periodically or get your own carbon monoxide tester and test it yourself whenever you want …they aren't expensive.
bought this heater 10 years ago, still works like day 1… japanese quality
Unflued —> not good when infants are around based on old knowledge. Please correct me if I'm wrong
