Seiko Snzf17 Problem

Hey guys

Bought thr above seiko watch recently but not very happy with the quality (could be something to do with the seller).

My time kept lagging behind so I had to dial it 1-2 mins faster. As of this morning when I checked the watch at 8 not only did the time shows 3 and the date was changed to the Tuesday the 5th!

Has this happened to anyone before?

Cheers

Not an expert but try changing the battery?

    • It’s automatic movement thought

Look through the back of the case and you'll see a + and - sign. As far as I'm aware, this is used to correct the timing. Mine is out by at least 2 minutes every 2 days or so, it doesn't bother me though because I'm late for everything regardless.

If you do that, you will let the pressure escape and the waterproofing will decrease significantly. Just fyi.

  • The date change is likely because it is set 12 hours fast.
The time drift varies on most automatics. I have had ones that are 5 minutes per month out.
Often, the drift will average out a bit as you wear it, and my current Seiko is maybe 1 minute fast every couple of months, which is about as accurate as this watch can get.

I believe the movement is within spec if it is within +/- 25s per day.

EDIT: if the time is out by 5 hours and the date changed, it is because the crown was accidentally adjusted.

  • As per previous poster, date change is most probably because time is set 12 hrs fast, you’d find that to avoid this, most watch manuals tell you to keep winding the hour hand until the date changes (to make sure you start on a new day) before setting it to the correct time.
As for it stopping at midnight, chances are it wasn’t fully wound up (that depends on how long you wear it for before putting it down). I rotate my watches so I’m constantly resetting time each time I wear them anyway, if you wear it every day (8 hrs+ each day assuming while working) you shouldn’t need to reset the time.
In saying that autos do go too fast or too slow (couple of mins out every month, week or even every day depending) so nothing out of ordinary if it does happen.
