Ratcheting FLEX Head Spanners Metric

Hi All,

Looking for some Ratcheting FLEX Head Spanners Metric.

Prefer fine tooth with a low swing angle for tighter spaces.

These are for my Son, so would like something that will last him for life.

I don't condone the "Not using the right tool for the job", but I assume these will be bashed with a hammer and leveraged with a pipe etc so they have to be built to last.

Any recommendations/specials. Will purchase overseas if need be. Need to be Australian, USA, ENGLISH, EU (to a degree) made.

Thanks.

Sadly I don’t think they make this quality any more.

Sadly I don’t think they make this quality any more.

They never did, "things were better in the older days" is mostly a myth. If the old stuff was so good where'd it all go? Shouldn't we still be using it?

      • I have a box full of 30+ year old sidchrome spanners in the shed, still fine.

But would like to move with the times and get some ratcheting ones.

        • Bar the flaking chrome my Sidchrome spanners work fine too. The ratchets are long gone though.

The WWII-era ones work just fine as well, not that I need imperial stuff much.

Bluntly if you get a 'brand name' and not SuperCheap's 'special of the day' item it'll be fine, the main consideration these days is feel. I've got some rather nice stuff I never use because they don't "feel right", or they've a slightly sharp edge that digs into your hand and so on.

      • I still have Dad's 60+ year old stuff, a few different name brands, still going strong along with many of my own starting new 40 years ago. Modern gear will not handle the hammering and pipe extensions. I have managed to break a few over 40 years but that was using bloody big hammers and very long pipes.

T'is not a myth me old fruit.

          It's called 'survivor bias'.

  • Is your son a professional mechanic?

    • No, but he works on cars every chance he can get.

  • Need to be Australian, USA, ENGLISH, EU (to a degree) made.

    Why?

How about Taiwanese, eg: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BTEXPDK. YouTube seems to like them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPIap5yO4_0, random dude finds the 'Snap-On' breaks first. Plenty more where that came from.

    5 degree ratcheting.

    • I'm done with giving China anymore of my money if I can avoid it.

If that means paying double, so be it.

      • Taiwan is China again? Must have missed the memo.

Well, Sidchrome has been made in Taiwan for over 20 years, so don't buy those. Or do because y'know "Buy Aussie!".
Don't buy Snap-On either, they're Chinese. Particularly the Blue stuff.

And even if the brand is "Made in X", where does the money go?

        eg http://www.ttigroup.com/en/our_brands/

  • OK, Found some Stahlwille on Amazon Germany. Nearly half price compared to Oz.
