eBay Officeworks Item Listed Cheaper 2 Weeks Later - Buyer Protection Guarantee?

Bought speaker for $167 from Officeworks on 23 May, 2018
Now noticed it is $149 + discount.

Just wondering what options I have since I've already opened the box.
Can I even return it?

I thought I saw somewhere ebay offered some type of price protection guarantee in instances such as above but can't find their policy on this.

What are the options?

buy another and return in-store. ebay's buyer protection is not a price protection guarantee.

  • Ask Officeworks?

You could ask Officeworks, but in any case, it's on indulgence on their behalf. You bought it for $167, the fact that it's now $149 is completely irrelevant. If they're nice, they might honour it, but they're well within their rights not to.

  • Just return the old one. Officeworks has 30 day change of mind policy - https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/return-p…

don't do that…. Buy the new one cheaper and return the unopened one.

We all pay for 'returns' in the long run via higher prices.

      • I thought they would cross-check the barcodes. If i would do this, then it would be obvious the new barcode won't match with the old receipt barcode.

        • All the barcodes on the box are the same ;)

Some stores like the thegoodguys, do track each item for sure. Officeworks isn't one of them.

        • @JimmyF:
Nope, on this box it shows S/N sticker + UPC/EAN/SAP barcode on box

        • @solotak: and the retailer in this case, officeworks, only ever scans the UPC barcode
