OZBARGAINTHANKU5

Hi Guys,

I am the Founder of Meetingplace, a clothing brand that works with Aboriginal artists and creators to promote and sell their work.
All our clothes are designed by young Indigenous artists, and our photographers and models are all Indigenous.
Our aim is to provide employment opportunities for young Indigenous creators and help them share their work with the world, while breaking down stereotypes about modern Aboriginal art and culture.

PROFITS GO TOWARDS SUPPORTING AND GROWING OUR ARTISTS, PHOTOGRAPHERS AND MODELS, AND TO INDIGENOUS YOUTH IN THE COMMUNITY.

I wanted to offer you guys an introductory offer of 30% off all of our t-shirts (pre-orders too). Use OZBARGAIN coupon.

T-shirts are 100% ringspun cotton, very similar to what AS Colour uses.

Also offering $5 off Hoodies, Jackets, or all purchases above $50, and the coupons should stack (I hope). Use THANKU5 coupon.

Thank you for helping to support young Aboriginal artists and creators!

All feedback is welcomed!

Also referred to as mere puffery.

@tshow: give it a rest and go to bed

        • @beatwixkid:

Honestly, the only 'dick' here is you. These questions were legitimate and asked in a reasonable manner. These questions ARE relevant because there are a tonne of 'charity' scams out there. Certainly not saying this is, but what's wrong with asking the hard questions? There are even a shitload of legitimate charities that are run so poorly and cost so much that they may as well be a scam. This ridiculous outrage is just SJW logic.

        • @tshow:

Regarding how you could ask your questions and not appear as a d@&k

It's mostly the lack of any friendly communication with the below:

How do you certify that your company actually employ Aboriginal people moreso than any other company?

How much of the profit goes to the causes you mentioned above? Is there anyway you can provide evidence?

Since profit is after expenditure, how much are staff/owner/rental paid?

Where can I find your ABN and payment receipient before I actually pay?

Try an introduction. Always helps to establish a bit of rapport, aswell as establishing a reason for the enquiry.

          Here's a sample:

          Hi DeadlyCords

Interested in purchasing, but I have some concerns regarding the product/site. I hope you understand these concerns and don't take them as an attack. There are a lot of companies out there trying to cash in on supporting charities, but don't actually pass on the money.

Then go onto all the questions that I am 100% sure you ask every single business before making a purchase from them.

Maybe look at phrasing them in a more "fluffy" manner, just to keep things friendly.

          Hope that helped!

          @Cubist:
I view that as being disingenuous. I understand pleasantries but I never partake at the expense of honesty.

Regardless, well constructed advice. Taken into consideration.

        • @snagseb: I did say the questions were reasonable and my gripe was about delivery and tact. No-one is outraged so not sure what you're ranting on about.

Oh, and "SJW logic"? Bet you're also sick of all the "snowflakes" and you probably complain about "political correctness gone too far" all the time too.

Only dicks use lazy buzzwords to undermine someone, so welcome to the club.

        • @beatwixkid:

Delivery as in how it was said, correct? So you're the personality police now?

Tshow felt it was disingenuous to reply any other way and I agree with him/her - Sorry! There are only 2 genders. thought I would mention that as it seems relevant to someone like you. Unless he was flat out abusive I don't see what your point is. Do you even have one?

Yeah ok, everyone else is a dick… except you.

  • would wearing such clothing be considered cultural appropriation?

    • -5

Did you just assume my culture? I'll have you know I'm probiotic

    • +2

Wearing this allows young artists to share their culture. If I was printing Indigenous designs and taking credit for them as my own, that would be huge appropriation. This is supporting a good cause.

      • As not being an first Australian myself, I’m concerned that wearing such a thing could be problematic as it might be interpreted as trivialising the thousands of years of culture and tradition into just another exotic design slapped on mass produced clothing.

Mate dont bother… OZb is for seasoned whingers and after you meet their requests or take on their brilliant marketing suggestions they will not purchase anyway. Only way OZbers will buy is if you offer an free in-home measure and fit with a 2 year, no questions asked money back guarantee. Their persuasions change with the wind.

I think the designs are awesome. All the best with the concept.

Thank you, that means a lot :)

  • Not my thing but good luck with the endeavour, OP.

Those models are whiter than i am…Are you certified or have any links to Supply nation

  • Give these guys a break. The money from these is going to a great cause. Sometimes it's not cool to sound so tight.

    • How do you know it's going to any other cause than the vendors back pocket?

  • I was pretty inspired by the post, thought it was a great cause, and liked the look of the goods so immediately bought a hoodie.

So I went back today to share the site to my friends, only to realise OP had dropped their prices across the entire range. The $70 hoodie (discounted by $5) that I bought 2 days ago is now only $50.

If you knew you were going to drop prices in 2 days, why didn't you give that as the bargain price?

I know I sound like a whinger, but I feel burned, and it feels unethical.

    Caveat Emptor, I suppose.

    • Hi my friend,
Thank you for your support I appreciate it a lot.

As you noticed I changed the website today. I just checked the prices and was surprised. Unfortunately the developer who changed it misunderstood what I said, and thought the old price included shipping costs, so they removed the shipping costs from the old price, which is a mistake.

I will try rectify this mistake now.

      • Rep - thanks for the clarification, much appreciated. All the best to your burgeoning company!
