Yes that is correct. It depends on how much new technology you need.
If I don't need to monitor my heart rate during the day (when I am not exercising) or if I don't need to count the number of steps I do, this Suunto Quest does the job well.
I believe the GPS pack does come with a GPS pod - which will not drain on the watch's battery.
I used to own one and I liked it.

Good reliable watch with long battery life!
the foot pod is nearly as accurate as GPS (and somehow better than the GPS in areas with lots of tall buildings)
heart rate belt is accruate yet comfortable to wear
