Very tempting to cash in my points since I probably won’t fly for next 12 months hmmmm

    • I thought Velocity points don't expire?

      • They do unless you transact every ?18 months.

Firstly, from 1 June 2016 your Velocity Points will not expire provided you earn or redeem Points at least once every 24 months. Previously, the expiry period was 36 months. Any Points earned from eligible activity prior to 1 June 2016 are not affected by this change and will not expire for 36 months.

A $250 gift card is 38 250 points. 45 000 points will get you a one way business class upgrade to LA or Hong Kong. 153 000 points will get you a $1000 gift card. It is less than to get a business class flight to Europe. I know how I'll be spending my points.

Only really applicable if you're planning to fly.

Yes points are always better value on flights and upgrades, but if you don't fly it doesn't mean much.

even ozbargain classified can get you more than that.

Begs the question why you would be collecting Velocity points if you weren't flying or intending to fly…

        • I collect Velocity points for flying, but also collect QFF if there's a zero annual fee deal just to sell since Qantas taxes make flying with them unappealing. Made the mistake of redeeming points for gift cards in the past, never again! Why not sell and get a higher return for cash? No brainer.

  • Velocity gift card rates suck. If you only want to redeem for gift cards, you're better off keeping your points with the original rewards group (at least with ANZ rewards and St George Amplify).
