One of the teens has played Skyrim and the older Elder Scrolls games, and has been looking at the Elder Scrolls Online.
His birthday is coming up.
What should I get him if he wants to play in terms of the base game and expansions?
Is it correct that you can enjoy the game without the monthly subscription (i presume requiring extra time grinding)?
EDIT: he has a windows PC

I have played all the elder scrolls games, accept the new Morrowind expansion that came out and the base elder scrolls online wasn't that bad but ive had it around a year now and haven't played it again mainly because other games ive wanted to play have come out
ESO has been out for a while, so there might not be a huge number of people online playing anymore. Should be something you check before getting it for him.
Summerset expansion came out a week ago on PC and next week for consoles.
Oh ok fair enough!
Lots of people still play ESO. I just started playing it last year because a friend got me into it.
Summerset was just released last week so those who had stopped playing have come back, but once the appeal dies down still find plenty playing regularly.
I'd recommend buying the Summerset edition now and that gives him access to the new content plus the base game - you also got the morrowind content if you pre-purchased summerset but think that has stopped now.
If he finds he is enjoying it and wants more to do after playing for a while can buy the older dlc content at any stage through the in game crown store.
There is no monthly fee. Can buy Crowns (ingame currency) with real money to get ingame stuff - like houses, mounts, crafting items etc but not required.PM me if you want to know anything else.
Thanks ShadowCrimson.
That's what I needed to know. It wasn't clear if the Morrowind expansion was needed to play Summerset.
So a key like this gets the full game plus Summerset expansion, and there is DLC he could add later, if desired:
https://www.cdkeys.com/pc/games/the-elder-scrolls-online-sum…Yes that would get the full base game plus Summerset.
Just check reviews of the site as some of those cd key ones aren't legit. IE they give out the same key to a number of people etc or just invalid keys.
I hear great things about black desert online or well at least more than elder scrolls online.
Guild wars 2 is another option.
Or get him something more rpg turn based like divinity original sin 1 or 2 or Dragon age origins.
They are all very Skyrim like I believe.
Not many contenders sadly worth mentioning atm :(
