Parcelpoint Delivery Collection Experiences

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has experiences using Parcelpoint (www.parcelpoint.com.au) to receive their packages.
I am particularly interested in experiences in which the goods received were from a third party and not from their partner retailers (eg ebay, Amazon).
I am contemplating using their service to receive a $2k laptop, as I am not at home to receive the delivery from the courier.
However reading their terms they only insure goods for $100 in the event of loss or damage, which is a big risk.
Logic tells me to steer clear, but curious to hear any experiences.

  • Haven't used them, but thought I'd comment incase its helpful, if you know what courier they're using it may help? For example Star Track is owned by Aus post I think, so you can pick up at an aus post parcel locker which is like 100 times better for me.

But other couriers also sometimes have parcel lockers around the place, some at certain newsagents, but I swear I've seen like DHL and others, so just wondering it might be an option if you haven't looked into it yet.

Otherwise interesting idea of this especially if it only costs 3 dollars from the looks of it?

  • I used it to receive some goods from Amazon - overall was a good experience. It took the better part of a day from when they received it to when I could pick it up and the tracking was next to useless once the parcel left the US, but otherwise got my parcel in good condition.

  • I had some stuff sent to the Parcel Point pickup at Melbourne Central from Amazon US. AusPost lockers are a lot easier, if you have that option available.

I was expecting some kind of notification that the item was waiting for me to be collected but got nothing. I tracked it online and saw that it had arrived in Melbourne. I just went to the collection point to collect it and it was there.

  • I got a computer case delivered with them, i had an issue with the driver, but besides that everything else went smoothly. The driver called me out, i went outside in his line of sight, and then he proceeded to have a conversation on his phone while i waited, i went up and knocked on his window, where then he had some choice words for me, and threatened to make sure any item i received in the future got lost, i just reported the guy to the company and moved on.

I doubt i would use them again. although their price was about 1/3rd the price of their competitors. They are cheap, but you get what you pay for.

  • I went to pick up goods from one and they had stored all their parcels in a corner in public view / access. When i went to tell them I'm picking something, the cashier started handing me random parcels to check which was mine. I was shocked with lack of security. She didn't even ask for id! I took my parcel and on the way out told her "you really should check properly for id and at least put these behind the counter" she just "uh huh uh huh yeah"d me and ushered me out.
I mean I got my parcel but it wasn't a 2k laptop. Probably wouldn't trust with something over a few hundred bucks.

Re tracking same deal, did not get a notification from them just had to track online to see it was waiting at the shop. Checked our security cameras they did not even arrive at my house to card me.

  • I've gone and retrieved many parcels from differnt parcel points around melb as I work in different contract jobs and have never had an issue though as someone mentioned above; sometimes they're a bit lost in sorting/finding your parcel but these were generally the smaller places like a newsagent. no issues with bigger stores like a pharmacy. Oh and yeah, no notifications on parcel arriving at a Parcel Point, youd have to manually track it yourself.

Thanks to everyone's contribution, all responses were quite helpful.
I thought I'd share my experience in case anyone else is contemplating to use this for an expensive item.
I opted to try the service after my credit card insurance confirmed my purchase would be covered for theft and damage.
I called a few parcel point locations first to ascertain how the parcels were stored, 4/5 locations simply said they stored them in a corner in the shop or next to the counter. 1 location stated they stored them behind the counter. I was advised no parcels had gone missing or damaged at any of the locations. I obviously opted for the location that stored them behind the counter.
I received an email and SMS notification to collect the parcel, precisely 2 minutes after the courier tracking showed delivered.
Upon arrival my delivery was safe behind a counter, I was asked for I.D and even questioned as to the contents.
It was a positive experience and is a good concept. However I would still like to see some liability placed on the locations that store and handle the parcels to ensure integrity and consistency in this service.
For an expensive item, you definitely want to do your research on the collection location and ensure your purchase is insured.
