Does anyone know what class SD cards these are?

    • +1

does not say on the link, assume from the price: standard or class 2? BUT still v good price

I hate people voting neg for invalid reason. If you need it, make a note of it, posting early lets people put off buying something since they know that item will be on special next week.

      • -6

lol.. I remember a post from COTD that got massive negs because the "deal" was supposed to start a DAY later.

        oh well…

    • -2

AFAICS elcheapo did not neg this post. Why all these neg(s) for a tongue-in-cheek comment?

      • -7

I did :) but the system revoked it ..just trying to make a point about Deal that not availabe NOW :)

        • +2

It even says in the title that it's available in a week. Get real.

Better have people prepare for it than find out 2 hours after Aldi has opened on the 27th and find them all sold out.

      • If a user negs the post and one of their comments gets 4 or more negs(i think its 4), their neg automatically gets removed.

  • Oh good deal, my headunit could do with one =D

  • yes i need to know the speed too as i need at least class 6. "Secure digital high speed memory .." doesnt tell us much. How are their returns policy? i guess i can always buy it and test it to see if its faster enough for HD video recording.

    • +3

Shouldn't trust how fast they say it goes too.
I remember buying a few 15mb/s ones, however they only really run at 10mb/s or less.
Manufacturers usually give the 'perfect' speed reading, not the 'average' speed reading.

Only speed reading I trust are from Sandisk, they have never failed me before.

They should really revise the Classes though, they only specify the "minimum" speed that a card need to be to be classified as that class. As long as it hits 10mb/s it is classed as 'Class 10' sort of worthless.

      • +2

"As long as it hits 10mb/s it is classed as ‘Class 10’ sort of worthless."

Class actually means sustained minimum write speed. e.g class 10 means the sustained minimum write speed is 10mb/s, occasionally the speed can hit as high as 22mb/s, which can not be sustained.

As long as you have a receipt, you can return anything within 60 days. I once returned a chainsaw after it broke.. they don't care if you have a receipt.

      • +2

Agree. Aldi probably have the most generous, no-hassle refund policy in Australia.

Buy it, keep the receipt. You have 2 months to try it out and return if not up to what you expected.

Hear! Hear! Aldi are the best; in a superior class to the Woolies & Coles oligopoly for us ozbargainers. They have EXCELLENT quality control and are - BY FAR - better value.

+1 also to Portmac & Ozhunter.

ps apart from day-to-day groceries, I bought an excellent PC, among other things, from them many years ago.

NO matter what the speed is. This price is a bargain.
Always remember, you pay what you get!

    • +1

Not if you shoot a lot of video in your camera… AVCHD Lite requires at least class 6…

  • Real world question on card speed - does it really matter for say a 5MP photo on a compact point and shoot? Could you record 720p on these? I'm not sure of the resulting file size but 10meg a second seems like borderline.

I know it makes a difference on professional cameras with large 12MP photos.

Extra $8 for a Class 10. The above deal is great but personally most of my camera's would suffer if this is less than class 6 I'd pay the extra for a Class 10 but then again I shoot professionally and obviously am bias to my requirements

Most people shooting with any recent camera may require a decent speed card and camcorders definitely would need it

    • +1

If you shoot professionally, why the hell are you using SDHC???

Whenever I've had pro's come in to do jobs for me they tell me that they won't use any SD at all as they are all too unreliable, only professional CF will do! ;)

      • haha!
        no comment!

  • this is the closest info I can find .. some AU ebayers sell the 4GB at 10$ .. so this one truly is a bargain.

http://www.dooyoo.de/flash-memory/traveler-sdhc-memory-card-… >> use google to translate to ENG.

getting confused which one i should buy. this aldi one or this one: http://www.mymemory.co.uk/SDHC/Transcend/Transcend-8GB-SD-Card-(SDHC)—-Class-10-

a couple of dollars more and you get class 6 or class 10 cards…

if this is a class2 or equivalent it might be very very slow

  • don't always go by what they print on packaging, i bought 2 Sandisk microsd cards, rated class 2, but i usually get around 6mb/s sustained write speed, more than enough!

@domcc1, re 720p movies, depends on video format and bitrate, but for a normal compact camera class 6 is typically overkill, faster cards are handy when you shoot say 20 frames in a few seconds and need them to be written out fast

WIERD!. I googled this deal to see if I could find out what speed the card was … and I came across what looks like a "copy site" … eg same & similar bargains and no comments (yet) … whats the deal? or should I say bargain?

    WIERD!

    Lawyers at 50 paces?

    • -1

      I before E, except after C.

      • +1

So the correct spelling is CIERD? :) :)

      • +9

I would like to sEIze upon this opportunity to explain that the word wEIrd is one of many exceptions to the I before E rule, even though EIght out of ten people are firm in thEIr belief that it is always true.

I had this same argument with my nEIghbour the other day. The notion that I could question the soverEIgnty of this general rule was forEIgn to him. But him bEIng a fEIsty character, I had to prove to him that their is a kalEIdoscope of different words where this rule does not hold.

After paying out on our $20 bet, the blood was boiling in his vEIns. I put the $20 towards some protEIn shakes, which I will consume at my lEIsure.

RULES ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN!!!

      • +4

        @cmdwedge

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_before_E_except_after_C

"However, the rule, in its short form as above, has many common exceptions, such as species, science, sufficient, ancient, society (where ie follows c) or seize, weird, theism, eight, weight, protein, sovereignty, foreign, vein, feisty, kaleidoscope, being, neighbour, and their (where ei is not preceded by c). More exceptions are listed below. According to a program, QI hosted by Stephen Fry shown on the BBC, there were actually more exceptions (923) than words which follow the rule. Various augmentations to the rhyme have been proposed to handle these exceptions.

In June 2009, the British government advised primary school teachers to stop teaching the rule."

You would have been less controversial to point out the correct spelling: weird. :)

Wonderful. OzBargain not only provides the bargains, you get more … education too!!

Let's see the copy and pasters at Ozdeal match that! :)

Peter certainly is a busy boy - everything seems to be posted by Peter and voted by Peter! This one for example is cut and paste from ozbargain "3W LED Flashllight $1.99 + Worldwide Free Shipping + 15% Off Coupon Code". Note the spelling of flashlight.

      • Peter was joined 13 minutes after your post by "bargainhunter" :) - maybe he's a better spelller.

  • thanks … I was wondireng ;)

    • -1

that should have been a 'reply'

  • i swear everytime i go to aldi, they never have their sale items in stock. i just went to aldi 2day and they had none.

    • You know this one starts next Thursday - but I know what you mean.

    • Friday is late
      Saturday is pushing it.
      Sunday forget it!

For the "good" stuff, the latest you'd want to go is Thursday afternoon.
People line up outside waiting for open on Thursday mornings to grab the really good deals.
As they don't stock alot of each item and there is no limit per customer, the earlier the better.

    Got one today, Class 6.
    Good price.

  • +2

I got one too, and did some benchmarking using H2Benchw, using the following command:

    H2Benchw.exe 2 -english -a -! -w report.txt

Sustained transfer rate (block size: 128 sectors):
    Reading: average 17792.8, min 16057.3, max 19874.9 [KByte/s]
    Writing: average 16694.0, min 11705.6, max 19328.5 [KByte/s]

Random access read: average 1.57, min 0.83, max 2.45 [ms]
Random access write: average 384.78, min 205.40, max 399.85 [ms]

16MB/s sustained transfer rate = this card is pretty damn good for $10!

Not much slower than the Sandisk Extreme III. Comparison table:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/sdhc-memory-card-charts/A…

    • I got both read and write of 12mb/s average.

      • Hi All,
I used CrystalDiskMark for my benchmark.
        I got
        Sequential-
        Avg Read: 17.30MB/s
        Avg Write: 16.84 MB/s

        Random Acces (512kb)-
        Avg Read: 17.20 MB/s
        Avg Write: 1.567 MB/s

Overall pretty close to dirtycarrot's results.

Great for $10!! Now….lets hope these cards last

  • Anyone thinking of buying these in bulk and selling them in WA or SA? LoL

I bought 2 of these and they are significantly faster than my standard SD. I got 12-15MB/s transfer rate.

Anyone selling their cameras i suggest you bundle these sd cards and you can charge $20-$30 more for them.
