Might want to mark this as pickup only … $149 to metro melb for delivery of a $99 bike … ouch.

    • Done :)

      • +1

Seems the kids bikes are only have a $40 delivery fee. I was checking on the larger ones so some may be cheaper. Apologies.

    • +11

I got free postage on my bike if u ring a store and no stoke ask for a postage code for free shipping
      I save $155

      • +2

        I can confirm this.

However, I believe this is completely up to the discretion of the sales assistant and/or store manager. Others have failed in the past to attain a free shipping code.

Out of curiosity, may I ask which bike you happened to purchase?

      • Just wanted to say, thanks Dex. Ozbargaining at its best.

        • Can you share the free shipping code to see if it works? :)

      • Completely works. Got one today. But forgot to go through cashrewards. Loss of $1.9495 :( and didn’t have the time of purchasing a gift card through AGL. Further loss of $2.92425 :(

      • Did you mean purchase online and ring up the store for free shipping?

  • Any commuter bike recommendations for a 6ft, 100kg fatass from this list? Or I am hopeless?

    • +17

      Harley

      • +3

OK, son. Sorry. I mean, Davidson? ;)

    • +6

      Community transport.

      http://www.rebelsport.com.au/Product/Flight-Hybrid-1-Men-s-B…

Something like this should do the job. Plenty of gears which means some really low gears to get up long/steep hills. Fit the skiniest tyres that the rims can take and make sure they can inflate to at least 90/100psi. Should be quite a decent commuter.

      • +2

        skinnest tyre? Bad advice dude.

      • Yeah, was considering that, but only medium is available. I need a large bike.

  • +6

Must be so painful for you riding a bike, Tightarse.

  • -3

    No deals on bikies instead?

  • +1

Nice. These are pretty good bikes. Well above supermarket quality and only slightly below brand names.
edit: looks like they have moved from Amarts low pricing to Rebel high price + discount. Seems okay net total though.

  • I purchas the Flight Vintage JR130 24" Girl's Bike and the store said it will be assembled by their professional bike builder.

Not bad but harder to get in the car. :)

    • +1

Do they charge extra for building it ? Sorry for the noob question

      • +2

        No.
But there's no manual that comes with the flight bikes I was told. Guess U don't need I if you're not assembling it.

        • Thanks

        • +1

we bought the ladies vintage bike few weeks back and it comes with a generic manual (applicable for all flight bikes). But vintage was pretty easy and straight forward to assemble, and a steal for this price, need to check assembly process for others!

        • @OzSikh: The two Melbourne stores I checked last time no longer offer assembly. However, the assembly of the Metro 700c Urban bike was pretty easy. The only concern I have with my assembly is the top cap bolt on the handle bar. Its too 'free' for my liking.

        • @Andy83: Hey, I'm just trying to assemble the Vintage bike but having struggle with the seat assembly.. It looks like there is a part missing when trying to put the clamp on the seat tube and fix it there.. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

e/ solved… just needed to go much harder on it then expected

    • When I collected the "Flight Vintage JR130 24" Girl's Bike", I also grabbed a "Flight Hybrid 3 Men's Bike" fully assembled ready to go for myself.

While the Flight Trail 1 650B Men's Mountain Bike, was the better deal, I couldn't find stock that wasn't sold. Being a desk jock, I found the Hybrid more suitable for paths \ pavements and seemed like a great build for $150. No kick-stand though.

  • Toruney TX, it's as entry level as you can get?

  • Can someone please help me deciding between Flight Metro RS 700C Men's Urban Bike and Flight Hybrid 1 Men's Bike

They both have been discounted to $299.

After recent bike posts, I feel like I should get one of these for occasional use. So, this would be my first bike.

If there is another better option, please feel free to advise. Thanks

    • +1

Figure out if you like drop handle bars or not.

Not everyone likes the aggressive ergonomic stance of drop bars. I personally hate them plus doesn't help my lower back.

I almost personally feel way more agile with flat bars.

I have the metro 700c and the mechanical disc brakes are no names and they are SHIT HOUSE

I probably didn't brake (ha) them in properly and now they squeal like a banshee. They were warped out of the box too.

Set of hydraulic breaks can be had for $80 on ebay from a name brand like Tektro so no biggy if they annoy you in future.

Nothing gives a bike a cheap/premium feel like bad/good brakes.

    • +1

Differences appear to be drop handles, no suspension, groupset, thinner tires? The urban bike with 2 x 8 gears seems simpler than 3 X 8.
I'd go the urban unless you're going off track/road.

      • Thanks mate.

        The urban bike with 2 x 8 gears seems simpler than 3 X 8.

Good point, but how much difference would it make having no suspension ?

        is thinner tyres better ?

        • +2

Thinner tyres are better on the road as you get less rolling resistance. But offroad, theyre not so great.

        • @ccsvchost:

From what I have read, thicker tyres have lower rolling resistance. Obviously not fat bike thick just comparing road bike tyre thicknesses.

        • @sylon: quite the opposite that thicker tyres have higher rolling resistance on road like ccsvchost said. Thicker tyres are good for softer or semi hard surfaces as they don't sink into it as much as the thinner tyres do.

    • The Flight Hybrid is going to be heavier because it has front suspension. These bikes are already relatively heavy for what they are so it's a consideration.

      • Can you please recommend any other commuter bike ?

    • +2

      Check these guys out.

      www.iamfree.com

They are on Johnston St, Fitzroy.

  • do amart/rebels stores still provide free servicing? I know they used to advertise it in their catalogues when they were amart but now that they've changed over I don't know if they'll still honour it

    • When I bought mine at Easter, I was told to bring it back for a free tune up.

  • Time to activate your credit card price protection if you purchased a month ago at 20% off.

  • Why is it that every different bike I pick from the list above, is not available for click n collect anywhere close to Brisbane… the closest store is Rebel Canberra?!

    Looks very dodgy to me….

  • Just last week bought a bike for wife. It was Flight Hybrid purple/white at 279. Now it's down by 40$. What can I do? Will rebel provide anything?
I've bought via gift cards(10% off).

    • +1

Lol for Neg. Spoke to store and they are going to refund the difference.

      • +3

Got the difference refunded. Got the bike at $219 (10% off via gift cards).

$209 (Got 10$ back via Amex Mobile Wallets offers)

Nitro N-Roll 3cm Kids Balance Bike

You'd have to have extremely small kids for this one.

  • +2

    Don't forget cashrewards!

http://www.rebelsport.com.au/Product/Flight-Trail-1-650B-Men… This seems to be the pick of the bunch. Alivio 27 speed, hydrolic disc brakes.

    • Yes but is it available anywhere for click and collect?

      • Yeah I got a small from Crossroads. But its out of stock now

        • You are lucky. Even weeks ago I couldn't find any stock near me.

I think the Trail has been replaced by the Traverse so not going to be much stock around.

    • can't find it anywhere in sydney.

this doesn't seem to be as good (steel frame for a start), but whats the thoughts on this?

      http://www.rebelsport.com.au/Product/Flight-X-Scape-27-5-Mou…

      • That has the lowest range gearing system which is not for mountain biking. Get Alivio or higher at least if you intend to use it for trail ride etc.

    • I'm confused by its sizes: Flight Men's Bicycle Size Guide: Small = 16", Medium = 18", Large = 20"
      According to misc. websites (e.g. https://www.bikeradar.com/au/mtb/gear/article/mountain-bike-…), 650B means 27.5".
So, what do the S/M/L sizes mean here for 650B? Is it for kids or adults?

      • +3

650b = 27.5" wheel diameter. Size guide S, M, L are for the frame measured from the seat tube top to bottom bracket.

  • +1

Just wondering if anyone ever had the Flight hybrid 3 here and what you think about it:

    http://www.rebelsport.com.au/Product/Flight-Hybrid-3-Men-s-B…

I live about 5km from UNI and have been looking to get a bike for easier commute. will this suffice my need or should I be going for the more expensive Hybrid 1 for $299?

    • I currently ride 6km and I ride a pretty crap bike, it's a second hand one that is a no frills mountain bike that the original owner probably bought from kmart, it has crap old school brakes and it's not easy to get in to the highest gear. It takes me about 25 minutes to do the trip, and while the bike isn't fast it does the job. So I guess for a 'doing the job' perspective you should be fine. I'm sure the other considerations are tyre width and pressure, and weight. My philosophy is that if you are doing it for exercise you may as well make it hard for yourself

      • +2

I have the opposite view. If you're doing it for exercise you want a bike that you are comfortable on and feels good to ride. Otherwise it's too easy to lose motivation to go out for a ride. You can make it harder for yourself by taking a longer route or selecting a route with hills, gearing selection and increasing your speed.

  • +1

rumour has it that all bikes will go half price at some point as Rebel sports plans to stop selling bike once they get rid of inventory. So keep watch for your bike to go half price! I got mine and am loving it especially for half price.

    • i second your rumours as i had a similar discussion with the store manager at Taylor Lakes, Victoria. which store are you talking about BTW and which one did you buy?

      • +1

        Flight Vintage 700C Women's Bike: http://www.rebelsport.com.au/Product/Flight-Vintage-700C-Wom…

he he got it for Mothers day and my 3rd time on it I had my dog on a lead while I rode, this was done each time but this time I crossed a road and dog went to the left of wheeley bin, Sunshine went to the right and dog lead pulled my fingers back so far that I sprained my hand real bad, ( I tried to let go but was not quick enough) it has been 2 weeks and I am just now able to use that hand to type, LOL… so much for having a bike, but
I will take my dog again as it was fun and convenient- but will be more careful about crossing roads with wheeley bins in yards next time!

        • +1

haha way to go girl! keep the spirits high!

  • Are there differences between the braking systems and bars of these two bikes?

    http://www.rebelsport.com.au/Product/Flight-Hybrid-2-Men-s-B…
    http://www.rebelsport.com.au/Product/Flight-Metro-700C-Men-s…

I want to buy one of them as an entry bike, and I have been reading the difference between disk brakes and rim brakes for a while, but I have no idea if these two have the same braking system or not. The pictures seem like they are different, but the descriptions kinda confused me.

    • +1

They are both disk brake systems.

    • +1

The first bike only has disc brakes on the front.

      • That's what I thought. I ended up not buying anyway. My car is tiny and my nearest store said they don't do assembly. And they quoted me delivery cost of $150. I would probably haven't used it so I decided not to get one.

  • Don't forget 5% cash back with Cashrewards!

    Thanks tightarse. Bought one.

  • awesome just grabbed a bike with training wheels for my 3.4 year old 70% off.

  • +1

don't forget to combine the purchase via cashrewards 5% off and using discounted rebel giftcard from entertainment book with 7% off for more savings.

    • can you please confirm which entertainment book you are referring to for 7%? If those are generic promo codes, can you please share?

  • +1

Flight Trail 1 650B, well specced at $111, too good to be true, sold out nationwide.

    • somehow it is showing online and allows to place an order but store says none of them is available in Large size, but yes smaller size is available.

  • $250 delivery to Noosa for a $100 bike what bullshit is this

    • Free postage if u ring a local store and they don’t have it they will give u a postage code
      For free postage

      • Don't give people false hope about free postage. Yes you got it but how many others did? I know of several comments from previous threads where people were not able to get free postage code.

        • I can vouch for @Dex38313 as I myself have been able to get the free shipping code for my own account. But I can tell you that there is no consistency with rebel policies and processes. If you ring Customer Service, they will tell you that it is a bulky item and hence no free shipping applicable. One of the store managers readily generated and provided a promo code (in-store) and another nearby stores was unwilling to co-operate for my wife's account. Sharing this from my own experience.

        • @Andy83:
Thanks for your comment. Yes it's clearly the exception if you get the code and you have to be very lucky.

It's just that I've seen this type of comment more than once on several threads and it's just clearly wrong to suggest that anyone can get free shipping.

        • @tranter: i further found out that Amart Sports turned Rebel are the good stores that are offering free deliveries but the original Rebel stores are the ones that are adamant and unwilling to co-operate. Having said that, being Rebel now, they should have one common process whether to have it or not!

        • @Andy83:

          Ok great good to know.

    • Did you read the title?

      • Yes but I got one free delivery

        • Did you ring them before 9pm? Are you in WA?

        • can you post ur postage code for ur free delivery please?

        • +1

@Kelvinwoo: it is specific to a particular rebel account unfortunately! some stores they do and some dont. Customer service also wont provide a shipping code.

        • @Andy83: thanks! Called the local store this afternoon, they provided me the free delivery code, bike ordered! yay!

  • Tweed Heads still have a bit of stock for anyone wanting to take the drive and visit Wharf St. at the same time. ;)

  • Bought one 16" BMX for my son for his birthday. Thank you op!

  • Tempted to get a BMX bike to take down to the skate park as it's something I've always wanted to try but idk if I'm going to just waste my money :(

    • what could go wrong?

just make sure you wear a helmet
