Honda CRV VTI -L 2018 or Mitsubishi Outlander Exceed Petrol 2018?

Hi Ozbargainers,

I am currently looking for a new mid sized 7 seater SUV and don't want to spend more than $40k.
I have checked out honda crv vti-l 2wd ($43,728) and mitsubishi outlander exceed petrol 4wd.($44,580)
i am getting $40k offer for both the cars from dealers can i get a better deal? or is this good enough?
Also not able to decide between the two cars , any thoughts?

  • Which one do you like more? Buy that one.

No side airbags for 3rd row in the outlander…

I like the honda more, but it doesn't have security features like lane change assist, collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control.

      Mitsibushi doesn't have gps.
I'm not really fussed about 4wd as i'll be driving mostly in the city,
I'm only comparing these two since these have most of the features that suits my budget,

      • security features like lane change assist, collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control.

        Firstly they are safety features.
Are you sure you need all this? to me they were more of a nuisance while driving in city.

  • I have the 2017 Outlander exceed and I love it, the extra safety features have been handy at times and you do get use the various sounds/beeping if you aren't paying attention (eg lane departure, brake warning etc). The third row of seats isn't designed for an adult or teenager but we have only used it once or twice. the price offered is about what I paid, it did come with the floor mats though.I do find the seats uncomfortable at times but that may be just me. we never looked at the Honda so can't comment.

I was looking at both cars back then. Didn't quite like the Outlander as we liked the Honda build, design, feel and interiors a lot better. It felt more well built. So we opt for that and happy to sacrifice the safety features in Outlander as we are both are relatively safe driver (never claim insurance in the past 15 years driving) and we hardly go out of town or have long distance drive.

In the end, I guess which one do you feel happier driving in? For that amount of money, you might as well drive what you enjoy driving in.

  • thanks for your input guys. really appreciated

  • Having just recently done the research / test driving on the same class of vehicles, I think the Outlander is a better vehicle from an overall features perspective, but the rear seating configuration is annoying as anything. Complete hassle to get the rear seats in to a fold-flat position. C-RV doesn't have those problems, much better built vehicle IMO.

And, as you say, Honda is missing a lot of the safety features in the VTi-L when compared to the Exceed.

  • Do you really need the 7 seats? How often will they be used?

    • Won't be using it much to be honest, but usually when the parents come from overseas which is about twice a year it would be handy to have 7 seats.

  • why on earth that the 7-seater is only available on VTI-L and not VTI-LX here in Australia?!

  • I am not sure if fitted to the crv, but the honda 1.5l turbo engine is having massive issues

  • Also remember the Honda CRV is fitted with the ONLY a 1.5L Turbo Engine while the Outlander comes with 2.4L Engine with similar fuel consumption. Even the Honda Civic comes with the same 1.5 Turbo Engine

Currently you can get the MY 18.5 Outlander ES Automatic, 7 Seater for $26,990 driveway with 12 months registration

You can get the MY2019 Outlander LS, Automatic, 7 Seater, Push Start, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Deviation warning, Emergency Brake Assist and many other safetey features for national maximum retail price of $33,990 drive away with 12 months registration. However if you're ready to make an offer and give a deposit with the offer you will be able to get it for approximately $30,000.

People have reported that they have got the MY2018 Outlader LS Automatic 7 Seater for $27,990 drive away but I have not been able to get the MY2019 Outlander LS for that price point.
