Anyone seen the Taiwan version pop up yet with B28?

  • +4

Will be big news when we start seeing the Taiwan edition of the Redmi Note 5 (with band 28).

    • The Note 5 has been announced and on sale in Taiwan for a month mate.

  • How does this compare to a Redmi Note 3 Pro? Is it a worthy update?

    • Sure is. About the only thing that is a downgrade is no band 28 (compared with the RN3P Kate version)

  • boooo - paid $300 like 2 weeks ago

Great specs for the price. The microUSB port needs to die already.

    • Yeah. I was disappointed too. We use Android Auto, and my wife's phone uses Type-C. I have to keep changing the cable every time we swap.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (Redmi 5 Plus)

Main differences for a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro vs a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

    • 181g vs 165g
    • 5.99" vs 5.5"
    • 1080 x 2160 pixels, 18:9 ratio vs 1080 x 1920 pixels, 16:9 ratio
    • Qualcomm SDM636 Snapdragon 636 vs Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625
    • Octa-core 1.8 GHz Kryo 260 vs Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53
    • Adreno 509 vs Adreno 506
    • 64 GB, 4/6 GB RAM vs 64 GB, 4 GB RAM or 32 GB, 3 GB RAM
    • Dual: 12 MP (f/2.2, 1.25µm) + 5 MP (f/2.0, 1.12µm), phase detection autofocus, dual-LED flash vs 13 MP (f/2.0, 1.12µm), phase detection autofocus, dual-LED dual-tone flash
    • 20 MP (f/2.2, 1/2.8", 1µm), LED flash, 1080p vs 5 MP, f/2.0, 1080p
    • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, WiFi Direct, hotspot vs Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot
    • 5.0, A2DP, LE vs 5.0, A2DP, LE
    • Fast battery charging (Quick Charge 2.0) vs no Fast battery charging (Quick Charge 2.0)
    • Non-removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery vs Non-removable Li-Po 4100 mAh battery

Overall a better set of cameras, slightly better gpu, cpu, option for more ram up to 6gb, additional WiFi ac, 5.0 Bluetooth, fast charging QC2.0, more pixels, larger screen size.

Neat little upgrade if you can stomach the extra $20-30 AUD and extra weight and size in your pocket compared to a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.

      Wrong specs in the comparison

      • First of all, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is an Indian Version, which is not up for sale in this post. It is Chinease Redmi Note 5’s Global Version, which is similar to Indian Redmi Note 5 Pro, but not the same

      • Second thing is, Global Redmi Note 5 has 13 MP Front Facing Camera as oppose to 20 MP Front Camera in Indian Redmi Note 5 Pro.

      • Also Rear 12MP Primary Camera on the Global Refmi Note 5 has f/1.9 Aperture, but you mentioned f/2.2 (whixh is for Indian Redmi Note 5 Pro)

      • In the comparison, you mentioned that Redmi Note 4 has Bluetooth Version 5.0, which is not not true, it is 4.1

      Just my 2 cents….

Just wish it had NFC :(

  • Also 5% cashback at Ali Express.

    • how do you get cashback

      • Cashrewards

I am so confused by all these phones. I bought the Redmi Note 5A for my daughter and was going to get the Redmi Note 5 Plus for my other daughter. So what is a Redmi Note 5?

    • +1

Techtablets has some reviews of the different models

  • +1

I almost wish something would happen to my Redmi 4X (which I am using to type this) but it is not even a year old and it is still a solid phone even if it is the regular 16:9 version rather than the 18:9 Note version with a higher spec CPU.

MIUI has been a decent OS, I like it that there's continual upgrades unlike Android tablets where you might one minor update if you're lucky.

Cheaper and better spec'd phones will come, sit back and bide your time.

      • +1

So is an extra 10% on everything ordered from O/S in a few weeks/month lol.

        • I was behind on local news, I see what you mean. Hugely disappointed that the Australian government has extended its extortion racket to online sales.
I suppose we will become like Europe where your package will be detained by the post office until a satisfactory ransom is paid.

Wait until the Band 28 version is available. Apparently there's a taiwan edition with band 28 coming in, which is a big advantage for Australians.

    • +1

Thanks, any idea when it might be appro?

      • It's been rumoured for a while, so i would say in about 2 months it could be officially announced.

        • Basic Q sorry..
What is the problem for not having Band 28 ( if im using it in Syd)?

        • @electricbluee: If you're in Telstra or Optus, they heavily rely on Band 28 (at about 700 mhz) which is a frequency used in 4G connections for calls and mobile data.

Vodafone and Kogan users are mostly fine since they don't rely on band 28 but their signals weaken a lot when it isn't there.

Since there is a rumoured band 28 version of Redmi Note 5 coming out, most people are waiting for its release, since Redmi Note 5 is nothing short of perfect (well, except for NFC, that might really seal the deal of that phone being the best phone out there), and its only need in the past few years is Band 28.

        • @SDF05:

Yeah I'm with Optus. Thanks for the details.

Btw, another basic Q…why NFC is needed?

        • @electricbluee:

          Primarily for phone payments! :)

  • Gold version is below 200USD now - prices seem to be falling quickly

    • that's quite likely due to the fluctuation in the aud/usd exchange rate. I was looking at other phones as well and they all got a few $ cheaper in the last couple of days
edit: a bunch of currencies exchange rates

  • price jack, now AU $295.45 minimum

    • Great find! But add on $25 for shipping.

      • the gold version in OP's deal has gone down again to AU $267.01 at the moment, the price seems to change every day by up to $30-40

  • AU$300+ as far as I can see

  • FYI I managed to buy the gold one for ~$265 late at night, but as I said above, this seller changes the price at least once a day, and it was over $300 a few hours before and after I made the purchase.
edit: minus 5% cashrewards. the only downside is I was in a rush and didn't manage to claim the $4 coupon as it wasn't showing up for me (this was my first purchase on the site)

    • Global or Taiwanese?

      • global, bought from the seller in this post

        • Back to $265 as of today. I really don't know whether to jump all over it, or wait for access to the Taiwan model.

  • This should probably be un-expired, as it's still valid right now, it's just that it drifts in and out of availability from day to day and even hour to hour.
