So I had been trying to purchase a Wish gift card from Cash rewards/Entertainment book for last few days. I tried all my CBA cards but transaction declined each time. All my CBA cards are locked for international use (i.e. you can’t make in-store or online purchase online unless I go in the app and unlock it). I have done this to ensure that there is no fraudulent transaction from overseas.
Anyway, this morning I tried again and it failed again – I thought I will try to unlock the international online transaction and see if that makes any difference and voila – it worked.
Now that makes me wonder that why these Wish gift card transactions are being processed offshore?
Has anyone else experienced this too?
PS. Description of the transaction is Woolworth gift card Bella Vista. (Bella Vista is a suburb in NW Sydney).
I don't know but it could be the blocking method used by Commbank. In a similar way to how porn filters / pirate site filters / government censorship filters often catch up normal sites.
What I do know is that I've purchased Wish eGift cards from https://everydaygiftcards.com.au/ (routed through CashRewards) and have NOT been charged an international TXN fee on my ANZ Visa card.
This from a card that whacks a TXN fee on Lego purchases from the Australian LEGO site, made in Australian dollars.
