02

Sydney Tree Company is offering 10% off all tree services (tree removals, pruning, stump grinding, etc) that are scheduled for June 2018.

All quotes are free. Sydney Tree Company doesn't do the hard sell.

Please keep in mind that tree removal is expensive and 10% off is actually a significant discount.

why not mention it after the quote is prepared?

    • It breach the contract if mention it after

      • Let me guess they will say “sorry, we need to re-prepare the whole quote now”?

If we say we will remove a large tree over hanging your house, remove the stump to 30 cm below ground level, without damaging your property or getting someone injured… you better believe it.

If we say we will discount your quote by 10% because you asked… you better believe it.

You are only as good as your word.

        • @bpitt:

All the words i understand but putting together this way then i dont understand

@LoveBargain15: All I'm saying is that if you can trust someone with a valuable asset like your house - maybe you can trust them to give you a 10% discount.

@bpitt: All i'm saying is why should i trust you if you're not prepared to trust me?

You need to mention this offer while they prepare your quote.

If it is genuine why does it need to be mentioned before the quote is done? So they can add another 10%?

Not really, it's mostly labour and there is plenty of profit in it.

    • No discount at all. Probably just for marketing purposes to see what marketing works and what doesn’t. Next month they will be back with 15-20% or more.

This is the first time we've ever offered discounts. The arbor industry is not one where you can 'prune the edges'. Oh, just wait, that is exactly what we do. :)

We are unlikely to offer discounts in the future. June is a quieter than usual and we're waiting for outcomes on a few government tenders.

The quotes are typically carried out by site inspection. At some point just say you want your 10% off during the conversation. Ask for a price first, and then ask for a price with the discount? Would you be happy then? A formal quote is prepared for all jobs setting the obligations of the customer and the arborist. We like to have everything lined up before we go. We've had instances where people negotiate in bad faith after a job is complete and we choose not to put ourselves in that position. Keep in mind - if you don't like the quote there is no obligation or financial penalty if you don't proceed with it.

I've had instances where tradespeople negotiate in bad faith after a job is complete and i choose not to put myself in that position.

Bargains have prices, and a 10% discount obtained "during the conversation" doesn't pass muster. This comment especially concerns me.

      Negative Nancy.

Do you know how ridiculous you sound?

Advertise a 10% discount but you must negotiate it with the labourer carrying out the work - we don't get involved. If you're advertising the discount it should be on You the business to ensure that WE the consumer are guaranteed the discount that you are promising.

Can we seriously remove this post?

Too many people are posting false bargains to get free advertising.

    • Most ozbargainers would negotiate first
Then ask for a cash discount
      Then mention 10% off
Then stay up all night tossing and turning wondering if they got best possible deal

Op I’d stay clear from this ruthless mob

      • This is the wrong place to be posting false deals to get free advertising.

        Move along peanut….

  • I would go a head with a quota that is genuinely 10% discounted. In regard to tree cuttting, there is no identical tree so the quote is up to the business and by giving 10% discount can be as same as no discount at all

  • How can you give any discount on an unfixed price?…. This is nonsense….

  • I organized a tree lopper for an elderly friend and the quotes varied wildly .
Got quotes from a couple of guys on airtasker and 2 from local advertisers . The airtasker quotes were much much cheaper .

I got about 8 trees removed about a year ago, I also went to Airtasker. There are plenty of tradies on there giving you the inflated prices and also joe blows willing to give it a try. Honestly it isn’t rocket science cutting down a tree.. but in saying that you need someone with experience when it comes to trees next to property. All these tradies trying to justify inflated prices going on about what qualification and cutting wrong way etc… all I can think about was ur not doing surgery, your cutting a tree down dead. Just don’t msg my pool fence…

      • all I can think about was ur not doing surgery,

Tree surgeons will be unimpressed with this.

  • You need to mention this offer while they prepare your quote.

So how does one know one is getting a 10% discount?

    • +1

Mention it prior to the quote so the original price can be marked up 15% and you feel like you're getting a bargain when instead you're being taken to the fleecers.

  • Negging because the condition …

You need to mention this offer while they prepare your quote.

… is a preposterous unreliable method of securing the discount in Associated OP's title … you better believe it.
