    Guys
for those who aren't flood affected, please do not take advantage of this offer, as people who are flood affected and have their photos damaged due to the floods really want this as this may be their only chance that they will have their photo memories restored
    ~issh

I'm with you. Anyone not affected, do not take this offer up.

    • +7

Agreed. If anyone wants to take advantage of a company trying to help with this flood crisis, they should take your advice and make multiple small donations to scam multiple pies out of Pie Face.

"they should take your advice and make multiple small donations to scam multiple pies out of Pie Face."
i read the 'bargain' wrong, if your read my explaination, i though it was a $10 pie and donation

        My explaination from the pie
"honestly, how many of you actually directly(whether helping out the victims or giving money to them? Seriously how many of you did do that?
Or even, how many of you would buy a $10 pie, would this even be considered a bargain[sorry mods but i have to :(], because as far as i am concerned i doubt any of you would like to pay $10 for a pie, so what is this a ‘charity event’, because i am sure that they are not allowed"

if you read it, i thought it was a $10 pie that day, but now i know it's like make a donation of any given value and you get the free pie

No probs - but that's why you there were so many upset people at the suggestion of multiple donations, and it looked pretty bad when you fully supported the idea :)

        • haha yeah
a misunderstanding can get you negged
but somehow my 'explanation' got 3+ idk why though

    • +7

This was my intention in posting it, not just for anyone and everyone to take advantage of it.

    • +1

      pretty sure they can't away

"•Digitally restore two photographs that have suffered severe flood damage (RRP $198)
      "

but you never know some people might put their photos in the washing machine.

      • +1

        why would they want to….
they are just simply wasting their, others and the business's time
and a photo restoration would not be better than a original photo

  • +2

That's such a nice gesture DigitalPulse, but I guess that photoshop is also trying to wheel in some new customers as those poor people in QLD would most likely have more than 2 photos that need to be restored… :)

  • Anyone notice that the moneybackco value for this posting is $129 according to the main OzBargain page??

  • My grandma has a photo of her father that was damaged (and then very poorly restored) post the 1974 floods.

Its the only photo she has of him.

Wonder if they would be able to help.

    • +2

you should personally take this on board to have the picture re-restored at your local restorer (NOT one of the 2 offering freebies) and pay the going rate, which I'm sure for 1 picture will be not a great deal. The joy for grandma will far outweigh your cost.

  • Shouldn't this deal and the other photo deal really be part of the QLD Flood thread. Just like the Grays Auctions deal that just got moved?

Really, they are both just doing the ol "Free Family Portrait" deal, were the photo is free with a small print to get you in the door, but then they try to get you to buy some of their other services?

"Talk with you about other conservation and preservation options relevant to your personal collection of photos, memorabilia, artworks and books."

We can't promote every company that if trying to get their name out using by passing themselves off as a good Samaritan etc.

Not saying the OP is trying to rip anyone off, but really it's just marketing.

It's a nice way of extracting money from already desperate flood victims.
Don't worry, the users and abusers of this offer will suck up any shred of benefit or 'good intentions' that existed beforehand.

Great thought by this company, and 100% of ticks to them.
However, if it wasn't free I'd be wondering why they're charging $19 per photo to be scanned ("scan up to 10 photos for free (RRP $199) using our high-resolution professional scanner")
and $99 per photo to be restored ("Digitally restore two photographs that have suffered severe flood damage (RRP $198)
and $4.50 for a reprint of a photo ("Reprint two copies (6” x 8”) of each of the restored photographs (RRP $18)")
Let alone what wonderful advice they might give in the rest of their deal…

Huh. Isn't the market price only 50 cents to a dollar per negative scanned. Gee, if it was really $20 each, I would just buy a real film scanner for $1000 and pass it around to the flood victims.

Anyway, seriously, you are going to do more than 10 prints. This just feels like a marketing scam.

man 20 dollars a scan is a bit rich, photo restoration yeah, as thats pretty hard if you do it right and is labor intensive… but scanning a photo?

fantastic that they are offering it free though. just hope they dont try to upsell and tell you you need to make your photos digital to ensure they are secure…

As the owner of Art Land it is disappointing to read that people think this is just a marketing scan…. not everyone is out to rip people off. Our intention is not to take advantage of anyone it is merely to help those who have been affected by the floods in the best way we can.

In regards to our pricing each scan takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes using a high resolution Epson scanner (not a $1000 real film scanner) and unlike negatives which can be done in lots of 24 at a time we scan each hard copy photo individually. Also our restoration pricing is based on 90 minutes of work by one of our staff.

Unfortunately as we are a small business we had to limit the amount of photos we can process per household simply because we would not be able to handle the volume of work and we still have a business to run. The idea for people is not to scan every photo they own but perhaps some of the more the precious ones… like their wedding photo or a family portrait of the kids.

I hope this might clarify some of the points people have had issues with regarding our offer and perhaps in future you might not be so quick to judge.

    Regards,

    • is the photo scanning automated or does someone have to stand over the scanner and watch it/change photos?

I don't think people are quick to judge as no ones negged the deal, but most have an idea that scanning a photo takes 20-30 seconds

I guess with all the time share calls going on, "you've just won a free holiday! all you have to do is come to a seminar…"! sell sell sell, people are a bit cautious of up selling and pressure sales.
