LG SK10Y 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos Soundbar - $1,242 with Free Delivery @ AppliancesOnline

50

Hi all,

First deal, so hopefully all the info is included.

Been eyeing off this soundbar since it was announced. It is the 2018 model with Dolby Atmos and RRP is $1699. There is a current special at JB for $1499 but AppliancesOnline is still $250 cheaper.

Heard good things about it, and has 4K Passthrough, and the Atmos sound processing is apparently quite impressive. There is a 2 week lead time from AppliancesOnline for postage since they seem to order it straight from LG rather than stocking it, but you get to pick your delivery day, which helps. Also has Chromecast built-in as a bonus.

The Meridian tech on this is the draw card. It adjusts for speaker height and creates the illusion the voice is coming from the middle of the screen.

  • I didn't expect much, until I listened to one on the shop floor. It was a huge building, and somehow it was projecting sound all around me. It sounded fantastic. It was particularly amazing when it came to switching from dialogue to loud action scenes. If I didn't have the space/money for a full surround system, this is what I would get. Truly amazed.

Like most sound bars it’s crippled with only two inputs and no DTS:X support.

    • Horses for courses.

Soundbar are made for simplicity and space efficiency. Adding more inputs and options would be contradictory to the design goals and be redundant.

  • Can someone explain to me what 5.1.2ch is?

    • The .2 is the Dolby Atmos. It has two speakers that fire upwards. The idea being that the sound from the two speakers will hit your ceiling and reflect back down at you, letting you hear sound from above.

      • That's some magic bouncy walls! In actual Atmos setups the speakers are supposed to be attached to the ceiling.
No point in getting a soundbar and expecting a great surround experience. Companies are making these products as it's so much cheaper for them to build and market. Now charging more than a full 7.1 setup for a thin strip of speakers and sub. Getting a soundbar with Dolby Atmos is like watching a 4K movie on a 1080P screen.

      • Thanks but sounds gimmicky to me.
