What does the Mark as Read button do (after pressing Notifications bell) when using Android Chrome browser

This button doesn't seem to make sense as I can't see any checkboxes to select?

Also, all notifications seem to stay there when I click it?

It marks the comment as read…changes the message text from bold (new) to normal (read)

  Seems to change the background colour for me from grey to white when clicked but I get the idea. :-) Thanks

It clears the red badge next to the bell. The badge is a count of how many notifications you've received since you last click Mark as Read.

There is currently no method to "clear" the notifications — it is designed to always show at least the last 8 events in the past.
