Cockroaches Got into The Dishwasher and Broke The Electrics

Just a word of warning for anyone that has a cockroach problem.

We have had many cockroaches for the past few weeks and have done our best to rid them, via surface sprays and baits.

Our Miele dishwasher which has been great for the past 10 years recently lost all power.

The service man came today and advised that cockroaches had got into the electrics and stuffed it.

We need to replace the electric panel "the brain" of the dishwasher.

$400 plus the call out fee.

Might be time to call the professional pest controller to remove our cockroach problem.

Cockroaches let out the smoke from the electronics.

    • Gotta keep the smoke inside those little canisters soldered to the circuit board.

      • Gotta keep the smoke in the cockroaches too.

    Thanks for letting us know.

how often to you clean your house?

  • -4

Make sure the house is clean lol…

    • +1

The house is very clean, there was never any food scraps left out, bin was emptied every second day…when cockroaches were discovered we started emptying the bin every day.

I think they came into the house for the warmth and the dampness under the sink and in the dishwasher.

      http://www.cureallpest.com.au/5-myths-cockroaches/

The first myth is that cockroaches only live in dirty houses. This is totally untrue, cockroaches will live anywhere they can. They are just more apparent in dirty houses as the food is out in the open.

I understand just trying to piss you off lol…
but yeah probably should get pest control surely it's cheaper than $400+!!

Provided it's warm, and there is enough water and food.

You're not cleaning up as well as you think you are. I had cockroaches (not many) when I moved into my house, you need to remove every scrap of food and drop of water, eg dry the sink. Don't put food scraps in the bin, I used to store mine in the fridge or freezer until garbage night.

Takes a few months to break the cycle.

Of course the next year the ants decided it was ok to move in…

Kill the ant scout. Don't clear the body. Let the other scouts know you're a bad mothertucker.

Fixing a 10 year old washer for $400? Buy a new one mate.

    • Meile Dishwashers will run for 20 years +, $400.00 to replace panel is still cheap compared to replacing with an equivalent unit.

      • So does my car but I would still prefer a new one.

You can get a Bosch for $599.

        • You've obviously never owned a Miele.

        • @pjcook: How is that in any way relevant?

        • @Ryanek: The Meile dishwashers are designed to last over 20 years, they are silent running and do a great job. I have had a Bosch dishwasher and found it noisy and didn't do as good a job as the Meile. a 1o year old Meile has at least another 10 years of use possibly more. This is my experience and having had other brands in the past I can only state that the Meile is that much better than $500.00 dishwashers.

        • @pjcook:

I've had a ~$500 Bosch dishwasher for 8 years no problems.cleans fine and isn't noisy.

Branding is just marketing these days. Gets people to pay more for no reason.

          Ask any appliance repairer.

  • I had a coffee machine once that got infested with cockroaches, it was so gross. They were all dead when I found them. I think they liked the warm dampness and maybe they ate the coffee grinds that fell down sometimes. Like OP the house was clean.

    • In the reservoir or inside the machine?

      • Underneath the machine, behind the drip tray, in a sort of cavity

  • I bought some cockroach baits from aliexpress. they seemed to work. as for approx 6 months there was no sign of cockroaches (I live in a 70 year old queensland weatherboard - warm weather and house full of gaps)

    5 pack for US$0.93 delivered ~ US 20cents each

2 pack for US $3.31 delivered ~ us 17cents each

  • Dish washer? Sounds a bit Starship Enterprise to me.

Happened to my sister as well.
Miele should seal the unit to ensure large creepy crawlers cannot get to the circuit board. Note that cockroaches are not an issue in Germany where the machine is engineered; I used to live there for a while.
As called out, Cockroaches love warm damp spaces, a dishwasher is an ideal environment for them. No matter how clean you keep your home they will venture in. Once lived on the fifth level of an apartment in Sydney and had one fly in through the window in the late afternoon. Needless to say we squashed it upon sight, however you cannot catch them all. Never saw a cockroach in the apartment before that or afterwards.

Where the hell are German cockroaches from then? (genuine question)

      • They're export quality. :)

      • Where the hell are German cockroaches from then?

Everywhere, and everyone calls them something different. Usually it's a country you don't like much, we should rename them New Zealand cockroaches.

      • Probably the person who named them didn't like Germans. But they have been around far longer than Germany as a nation.

You need to use Advion… I tried everything, then this… eerily effective… not a roach to be seen.

  • Do not use a pest controller. Use Advion for results, i do not represent Advion.

    Purchase here: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4-x-30g-Advion-Cockroach-German-…

Results here after first morning - https://ibb.co/fWtngT

  • If you have a hot water heater under the bench in the kitchen then cheack that too
100% chance they will be nesting around it

  • I used a product called Maxiforce Gold (a gel insecticide). about $60 on eBay. I threw out the dishwasher. Never had a problem since.
