Anonymous Commenting

Previously OzBargain.com.au only allows registered users to comment on the deals and participate in forums. I have just turned on the Anonymous Commenting setting to see whether it could encourage more comments on the deals posted.

Obviously the biggest draw back would be spams. OzBargain Blog for example, has received over 16,000+ spam comments over the last year, and it is surely getting worse and worse. Lucky the fine guys at Akismet is keeping those spams at bay.

We will see how it works out for OzBargain.com.au.

What do you think? Anonymous commenting or no?

    Well. Just to give some updates.

    Unregistered readers are certainly commenting. So are the spammers! I have deployed Akismet to combat spam on 13 April. 3 days later, it has caught 300 spams!!!

    Sorry I won't be going through the spam queue to check whether there's any false positive. Contact me if you have been labelled as spammer repeatedly.

    I'd it would be good so more people can comment. If I happen to randomly get to OzBargain for the first time, and want to comment on a particular bargain, only to find out that you need to register, I probably wouldn't have bother and would just close the browser. I think it's a good idea, spams aside.

    Well. Currently the Russians are attacking this site from Moscow city (sending spam comments) and has crashed OzBargain at around 9pm.

    No!! No Russian mafia please! We are just some Aussies trying to find some good bargains…
