Bowers & Wilkins PX over Ear Bluetooth & Noise Cancelling Headphones $347.09 + 2000 QFF Points @ Qantas Store

380

I am so angry right now. After spending months waiting for a deal on these i gave up and bought the Sony WH-1000XM2s for the same money.

These headphones get similar NC performance but their sound and build quality is next level. In addition this has USB C CHARGING! so you don't have to carry an additional cable around just to charge your headphones.

The only criticism in all the reviews is the $549 price in comparison to the Sonys or the Bose which can be had much cheaper. So this deal sorts that out.

I now live overseas now so can't even sell my Sonys and buy these :(

EDIT
These are also comparable to the Bose QC 35 in terms of performance but reviews say the noise quality and particularly the sound stage in these is class leading whilst the build and design is just gorgeous with the B&W set.

  • which one is better between this and sennheiser pxc 550? anyone tried both can share their experience?

    • definitely this…. but the Sony has better noise cancelling. the Sony also more comfortable but the sound quality and build quality are much better.

      • +1

If i can just jump in, I've used the Sony's from Australia to Sweden and then from there to Finland and back all in the last month and if im brutally brutally honest. I haven't been impressed with the noise cancelling. I had a pair of cheap in ear audio technica noise cancelling ear phones that did far better cancellation (with help from foam isolation).

Comfort wise I have to concede the Sonys are very very good. I didnt remove them even for a second from door to door which is over 30 hours non stop.

Battery life is also excellent with it easily lasting that 30 hour trip without needing any juice.

The build quality is pretty poor though and i feel like the Sony's headband could snap/crack which indeed is a common problem.

In summary, i think noise cancellation from the Sonys is pretty average. When i tried the Bose in store they definitely seemed better but i thought it wouldnt be perceptible in real world use. I was wrong :(

        • could you please share which in-ear audio technica noise cancelling were you referring to? thanks mate.

  • extremely good price. I paid 430 second hand on eBay just 2 weeks ago…… spewing….

    • +1

I have spent the last hour thinking of schemes and scams to try and sell my sonys and get a friend to bring over these bad boys when they visit in 2 months time.

  • Do these feel hot around the ears? I currently have the beoplay H7, and they are excellent in every way, except for a bit hot around the ears.

  • how do these compare to the sonys or bose equivalents?

    • Depends on the music genre.
Bose have good mids and generally flat. Sony and pxc 550 have better bass.
B&W PX have good sound stage, clear but not bassy.

Bose is most comfortable. B&W PX have more clamping force.
Sony 1000x are generally the best reviewed.

I have these and (IMO) they are amazing. Multiple connection options, charge via USB-C from my phone, battery lasts ages, sound quality is (again IMO) better than the Sony and Bose, and they actually fit my gargantuan head with room to spare. Build quality is also head and shoulders above the Sony and Bose.

I paid $500 at Clef hifi in South Melbourne, and probably would again. At this price it would be a no brainer for me

    • From the reviews, the bass are on the flater side?

      • +2

I've never found them lacking but I don't listen to much bass-heavy music. A lossless version of Redbone by Childish Gambino played on my wife's LG V20 with a wired connection (NC off obviously) made me realise just how good a good pair of headphones can sound.

This was the review that pushed me in the direction of buying them

        • How do they sound compared to other hp you have?

    • How big is your head? I am 63cm and have trouble as most regulars clamp too hard. Most comfortable so far are the qc35’s

      • +2

From memory 67cm but it's been a while since I measured

        • your head is still growing?

        • @wangsk: sometimes I think it might be lol. I haven't been able to wear hats since I was a child and I can't wear 99% of helmets (bike or motorcycle). I have the biggest head of anyone I've ever met. I once tried to buy a helmet for taking my car on a track and I had half of the Peter Stevens store in Melbourne CBD standing around staring at me in amazement when they couldn't find any close-faced helmets in the store that would fit. Good times

        • Thankyou for this - I am in the range of 65cm and was looking for info about how they go for large heads.

QC35's were apparently good for this, but these seem like a great option.

  • Do these come with or are you able to purchase a bluetooth adaptor for aircraft listening?

    • +1

definitely doesn't come with a bluetooth adapter.

According to this linked unboxing video it looks like it doesnt even come with a two pronged airline adapter but neither of the above should be an issue if you have heard of banggood/gearbest

  • I've been waiting for a deal on these. How do I get QFF points?

    • Got over-excited before realising I had 0 QFF points…wishing I used the card that came for free in the deal some time back.

    • +1

You can buy 2000 points for $77.50 directly from Qantas too -
      https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/program/usingPoints/topupP…

But this brings up the price to $424.59. :<

      • That's still cheaper than all retailers but I think I'll wait for a cash sale. Thanks for the heads up.

  • Tempted. Anyone know how does this fit comfort wise compared to the QC25/35s? I have a fairly large head and wear specs. I find the Bose QC25 comfortable for long flights. My partner has a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50X and I find it uncomfortable for me after 1-2 hours.

    • +1

Definitely wouldn't recommend them in your case, imo nothing comes close to the QC35s. I also only ever wear mine when I'm wearing contacts, if you wear glasses then the sound quality drops because you've broken the noise isolating seal.

I absolutely love mine to bits though.

  • How much are QFF points going for? Have 30k points and am just trying to work out the best points + $ combination.

Or would it be best just to do $300 + points to be eligible for TRS since I'm travelling soon?

    • I just did $304 + points for eligible for TRS , I'm going overseas next month

  • Anyone ordered from Qantas store before? How long did delivery take?

    • +1

      3-5 business days.

      • My invoice is estimating 16 days. Hopefully it's quicker than that.

  • That verge review states this headphone is bass heavy and lacks mids which may not be the optimal choice for classical music - anyone has first hand experience with classical music on these please?

    • Weird, classical and jazz is where these shine for me because there's so much clarity in the mids compared to the MDR1000x I have.

    • So that typical wooly B&W sound that many seem love ;-p

      • -1

Not sure if serious, I have b&w home theater and it's anything but wooly, I will be comparing qc35ii, wh1000xm2 and px together next month.

  • DJs wouldn't price match this.

  • how bad is that… i dont have 2000 points~~ i also want one!

  • I use this exact sane headset when im on league of legends, it's noise cancellation works about 80% of the way.

  • Are they much heavier compared to the QC ii’s? How would the comfort level be on long flights?

    • +2

Much heavier than qc35ii, wh1000xm2, pxc550. These are possibly the heaviest of the ANC group.

  • Thanks OP, didn't know I had any points. Anyone know whether it is more cost effective to use them on this or to get upgraded on a flight?

    • upgrades are always the best dollar value for points, because of how extortionate business class usually is.

but, economy will get you there regardless whereas this gets you a pair of headphones to keep. so it depends how much you value being comfortable.

      • How much are we talking for an upgrade in points though? Considering I live in the UK…

  • Another option is b&o h9i if you can find one cheap. Considered on par with PX as a luxury bluetooth headphone.

  • Soundwise what are the diff between these and the bose/sonys?

    • From the general reviews I have found online, the sound quality is definitely a step up from the Bose QC35s. However, the Bose is more comfortable, especially if you have a large head and will be wearing it for a long duration.

Not too sure about the Sony.

  • Pros: better build quality, top of class sound quality, APTX HD support
Cons: Not as comfortable as QC35ii
