Laser Vision Correction - Sydney
Comments
I was diagnosed with thin cornea 6 years ago so they couldn't do laser correction back then. Has new technology in LASIK overcome that problem? Keen to hear. Cheers.
Same, but was more like 15 years ago. I've decided that I don't really care about it any more though - contact lens technology is really good these days.
I travelled from Melb to Sydney - http://www.eye.net.au/costs/
$1288 / eye
Highly recommend, booked a hotel close by and slept the next few days to recover / relax over the weekend, Monday got a check up to confirm healed well then back home.Oh, I have a question for you. I know they only do procedures on Friday and expect you to relax on the weekend.. But do you think I can go to work on the Sunday? 30 minutes drive both ways and 9.5 hour shift of light work. I'm having difficulty finding someone to cover me. Thanks in advance
From memory, Dr Sebban prefers and only performs TransPRK methods of correction, which typically require at least a week of rest. There are pros and cons for each type of procedure, some people avoid LASIK due to the risk of the flap. I'd definitely suggest looking at each available procedure before committing. Whirlpool has a long thread of people's experiences.
ohhh gosh,
I'd prefer to advise you not to, you get like a contact lens "bandage" to keep on for the weekend. Just like a regular contact lens, and you have some nice pain killers / sleeping tablets that help your eyes to heal and keep you feeling a bit tired and groggy. I'd suggest it's a no go, would delay your recovery. So sorry.Thank you so much for your response MatchK. I will just have to wait until new staff joins our store so I can guilt them into a Sunday shift. I wouldn't feel so bad if I didn't want 6 more Sundays off by the end of the year (my own wedding + honey moon and attending 2 other weddings).
I'm looking at getting this done, I'm located in QLD. Did you have a consult the same day as surgery? I'm worried about booking flights and a hotel only for them to tell me I can get the surgery done. I've had a consult with another company locally (but they charge $3500 per eye), and they are 90% certain I can get it done.
Your consultation wouldn't be on the same day as the surgery. Consultations come by pretty easy but the surgery you'll need to book a little bit ahead of time. Your consultation is with the ophthalmic and not Dr Sebban. Even if the ophthalmic says you're able to do it, Dr Sebban can still turn you down on the day if he thinks you're not suitable. He only does surgeries on Fridays and the follow up is on Monday.
Hello,
My consult was the same day, first thing in the morning on Friday.
Then came back a few hours later for the procedure.
I had been to a few providers in Victoria to check i'm an eligible candidate and felt relatively comfortable this would be the case.
My wife got this procedure done last year and she says it's one of the best things she's ever done.
She never needs to wear glasses again. Her glasses prescription was around +4.5.
It took her about 4-5 days to recover and start doing normal things again.
Definitely need a carer for the first 1-2 days after the surgery. Managing the various different post meds can get a little confusing.
Very fairly priced and Dr Sebban is very friendly and reassuring.
Any questions, let me know.
I will check out the Whirlpool forums.
I had mine done at Perfect Vision with Dr Moshegov. They were expensive, but had great feedback & the technology for thin corneas such as mine. Now have 20/15 vision 4 years later & worth every cent!
I had it done at Personal eyes @ Wynyard. Very Happy with the results. $4550 for both eyes.
