    Origin of ingredients: Vietnam
    Manufacturing or processing places: Vietnam

This is delicious but Vietnam + prawns = "no"

      no … why ?

Our best seafood goes overseas already and we imports asias' left overs … heck how much of the fish in woolies and coles is farmed overseas … hmm what is bassa and where does it come from ?

Reality is you aren't going to get wild caught Australian prawns in these products at these prices… even at full price of $7.50 per packet.

My local thai take away even imports their chicken for their curry, and the squid and prawns in their pad thai is imported.

Even in Australia we are farming prawns in ponds , wild caught is expensive and unpredictaible in size.

Go into a market in hong kong and see where our best seafood goes to.

These are yum dim sum, have bought before and 2will buy again, will restock my fridge and it yum chat at home for a few weeks on sunday mornings… the prawn and ginger are nicer though.

      • I don't see the point in injecting that goop, only to then rip the heads and tails off to make this. Yeah, I know - the place they buy prawns from would do it - but it's not in the middle of the prawns either because I often eat these.

Funny you mention farming prawns… I was wondering the other day if that were possible. Time to look into if it's possible at home, because I certainly can't afford to buy prawns anymore at their crazy prices… $40/kg then throw two-thirds of the weight away in the had and tail!

    • Eew gross yuck!

    • Gelatin, glucose and CMC are in lots of foods.

You would come into contact with CMC every day. I don't know why the video says nobody knows what it is.

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carboxymethyl_cellulose

      • Filling: Shrimp (34.5%), bamboo shoot, wheat starch, tapioca starch, egg white powder, water, soy oil, sesame oil, salt, sugar, white pepper, yeast extract.

cmc doesn't appear to be on the list of ingredients unless it's part of the prawn?

What she would have meant was, "it's China". i.e. We know what they TELL us it is, but if there's a way to cheat and put something else in, China will do it. They'd probably hire beggars with runny noses to stand over the vat, if they think they can get away with it.

    • I think this trick is only valid for fresh prawns.
Once you cook it, you would know which is the prawn or the unknown material.

Moreover, that trick is used to increase the prawn weight, (from 1kg-> 1.12/1.2kg), which is just an ingredient within the yumcha. (the shrimp size is quite small there lol)

For the processed foods, i have no comment.
In fact, I tried several Chen'yumcha, it is delicious in compare to other brands in Coles/Woolies! :)

  • buy them heaps and I am not dead/sick yet!

    • But do you actually eat them or give it to people you want gone?

these are as good as you get at your local Chinese on sunday morning yumcha, but less than 1/2 the price …

        • Serious? They just buy these steam up an serve it to you in the Chinese restaurant?

        • @wtfnodeal: Must be a cheap Yumcha

You are not dead now BUT will be latter.
      …………sick now.BUT will be latter.

highly recommend to steam those balls on a cotton steam cloth to prevent sticking

    • -1

just use some oil spray on the bottom jez

      • Oil wouldn't work with a bamboo steamer. These sticks to one like super glue. I use greaseproof paper. And reuse it several times. (Meh - the steam kills any bacteria.)

    • What is a cotton steam cloth!? Cotton is a natural fibre, so would normally stick like glue just like the bamboo steamer does.

    • Just put the frozen one into boiling water for 8 mins, stir a bit at the beginning, never stick.

Bought it at 1/2 price in Coles. I think The Chen's yumcha are the top one within supermarkets and Asian shops in BNE

  • How does Mr Chen's prawn taste in your mouth?

  • These are great steamed up and dumped in a cup of noodles.

  • I like these, bought them for the first time last time they were on half price. But just bought a huge bag at Costco the other day. Not sure if they're around the same value, I spend way too much time at Costco looking up prices to compare with Woolies/Coles.

  • Geez so much hate in the comment section, if you don’t like them then just don’t eat them haha everyone lighten up 😁

Nothing wrong with making people aware, ala baby formula powder made from recycled formica. They have the potential to produce great products, but instead they choose to lie and cheat and be the world's landfill exporter.

I went looking for a pair of shoes a few days ago. EVERYTHING is junk… Even from Athlete's Foot. I won't even look in Kmart now, because I only BEGAN to tighten the laces on some joggers there, and they immediately tore through the holes!?

It's about time something was done to force a level of reasonable quality (and no additives in food), or else Australia bans all imports from that company for 5 years (and any company that employs anyone from a banned company too, to stop that workaround).

  • Almost all frozen things iare import meat why worry now?

  • For anyone who likes Mr Chen so much , don’t miss the everyday low prices of $10 for 1kg at your nearest Aldi.

  • I don't think these are good for your health the prawns ain't fresh….
