  • sell it for cash.

    • But how much cash would you get for it? Looks like they sell in the classifieds for around 80% of face value?

      • ~$320-350

    • Wouldn't you need to give over your American Express account details for someone to use it or do you just book something for the other person?

      • from the amex travel site, book the accommodation/flight for the other person.

I do quite a bit of travel with my family. I find the travel credits good for redeeming "experiences" when we are visiting a location. The AMEX price is on par with booking the activity with any other travel site and it generally contributes to an experience/s that I wouldn't have done otherwise.

Same. I used it to book experiences. We make it a point to do a family holiday every year which put this Amex credit to good use.

  • I tried to book a hotel with it last year and the booking wouldn't go through as they only allocate a certain amount of rooms to amex. I ended up calling the hotel and rooms were still available when booking directly. I used it for experiences instead.

  • Compare online and find the cheapest, then comparw with Amex Travel. See how much your credit is actually worth. Otherwise just sell it on Classifieds.

  • air tickets

  • What you can get on the classifieds has really dropped in recent months. I had a $200 travel credit which I couldn’t even sell for $130 so I am instead going to redeem it on an experience.

  • If you can't use it on flights or hotels that you would be paying cash for anyway, then I would sell it on OzB.
However $400 Amex credit can be bought on OzB for as little as $300.

  • My wife and I had a weekend staycation with our toddler at the Intercontinental last year. I think we topped up about $30 for a nicer room.

I doubt you'll get it for much more than $250 if you were to list it for sale. Booking someone's airfare means supplying personal info to a complete stranger.
