Not to sound rude, but why a Mitsubishi Outlander?

Apart from being cheap and erm being cheap, it's a mediocre car at best. So many better cars in the field in my opinion.

Easily look at a Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Subaru Forester or even the new Holden Equinox first.

7 seater, 360 camera, android auto, plus all other safty features, warranty and customer service is ok, and after i crashed my lancer last week, mitsubishi does feel cheap and soft outside, but in terms of safety, dont think it lose to anyone. it does save nearly 20k campare to mazda and toyota 7 seaters.

    • second this.

drove one as a rental and what a disappointing car, underpowered, full of plastic.

    • @BTP1993 All those cars have their own problems… check owner feedback.

      • So the Outlander doesn't have issues either? All cars have problems, but Outlander origins date back to 2012.

  • For the price asked for the Outlander Exceed it contends with the Isuzu MUX LS-U and the Toyota Kluger and both of those would be a lot more car for the money.
As for negotiation… work out your happy price and approach the dealer (do not phone) put your offer to them and say you are ready to commit with a deposit there and then. Usually works if your offer is not too silly.
Double check the contract of sale and make very sure everything is correct.
Trading in and outright cash purchase can be a different approach. As you have not said which way you are going no one can assist you.
Requests for means of negotiation have been asked often. Search back through the forum.

    • thanks, how much discout you suggest to ask?

pay it outright with coins if that can make them want less.

  • Try out those car buyer agent people.
Or get a quote from your work's novated lease people.

My Pajero comes with an 11k discount and no dealer delivery charges because the orix people do magic

With novated lease always ask their interest rate they charge

    • Seconded! You don't even need to use your company's company. A lot of these companies (I used NLC) will act as buyers agent, negotiate a price, and then step out of the deal (they get a finders fee I guess).

Bought an Eclipse Cross (slightly smaller than Outlander, but way more features and better styling). Saved around 8K off retail.

Gahh! I was selling an eclipse cross recently. I ended up selling it to a bulk buyer cos no one would respond to my Carsales ad.

But at 8ks off! … Mine would have been more expensive.

I feel sad I didn't use these services to buy my Prius C and two Subaru's doh. All the money I could have saved :'(

      • what are other companies and why are they cheaper?

    • but they do have a broker fee of $1500

i believe ozbargainers have ways to save on everything.

    • OP is after strategies to negotiate. Not a helpful post imo.

      • +2

There are hundreds of threads already discussing strategies here if op wants to search.

Think we need a couple of sticky threads here.

    1. I want to buy XX how do I get the best deal?
    2. I got fined for XX can I get it reviewed/overturned?

Buying XX, find out what the RRP is, do some research online as to what is advertised, new, recent used, demo etc. Go and ask for less than that and see how you go. If you think they've got more discounting available, walk away and find another one.

3 Why is XX so expensive in Australia?

4 Got in a car crash. Don’t have insurance. What should I do?

  • The OP want's an Outlander so why would he look at a Kluger that is the size of a tank?

The current Kluger also dates back to 2012.

Current cheapest Kluger is around $44,00 but you will do better than that.

    New Outlander from $28,750.
