Thoughts on Obtaining The New OnePlus 6 in Australia?

With the recent official release of the OnePlus 6, and the disappointing (but expected) note that it will not be available in Aus, what you think is the best way of obtaining the handset here?
Was thinking a simple mail forwarder, but I would like to know if anyone has bought a US phone and whether it has worked well over here?
Thx for any feedback

I love the OnePlus phones but being a mobile developer, I refuse to buy any phone that has that ridiculous notch.

The cluster f&% those #&%&*^n notches cause us developers is ridiculous.

Imagine having 20 apps that now ALL need to be updated and re-released just to support a fsking notch!!!

Not to mention the apps that no longer function effectively for users just because they have the notch to contend with.

Freak'n arrogance of the hardware designers here.

Yes some Android phone manufacturers are providing some software control for the rendering space not going around the notch - but that doesn't help the iOS users or Devs and the whole idea of the notch is such a form over function feature it just doesn't make any sense.

I feel the same freaking way as senior developer

      • I really do agree, big fan of the brand label but the notch is so freaking annoying (why must they follow such a bad trend).
Hopefully the software update allowing black borders to hide the notch can help the devs with their jobs

  • The Australian OnePlus website has been updated with OnePlus 6 links on the header and footer of the website. Just the link currently returns a 404 (https://www.oneplus.com/au/6)

There may still be hope for an Australian launch soon?

Also I previously bought the HTC 10 Unlocked edition from USA on launch (they shipped internationally no issues) - Only problem is you need your own quick charger that has an AU power outlet

Thanks for the link, I've seen the 404 error before :(, really hoping they will release it here.
Hopefully Ill be able to buy a OnePlus quick charger from the Aus site even if they don't sell it here

      • The Oppo dash chargers work too - I bought one for the Oneplus 5T and it works perfectly.

Thoughts are it might be a good thing. Look up the recent OnePlus scandals involving collecting your data and leaving backdoor in devices. Why would you risk that?

      Plot twist all phones do.

All phones collect information but I wouldn't say that the information is the same, the country of collection is the same, and the trustworthiness of the company is the same in all cases.

Really disappointed that the OP6 doesn't support wireless charging. I thought that feature was a sure thing given the price, the glass back and since almost all new flagships have it.

    • yeah definitely - lack of wireless was the main thing putting me off the N7+ so guess that's a moot point now…

    • I heard the glass back was to allow for faster LTE, but could be wrong

  • OnePlus lost the plot after the second iteration. They're twice the price they were when they debuted. They were supposed to be flagship 'killers' for a fraction of the price. Still, people will pay for the hype.

    • OnePlus advertised the first two as Flagship Killers but not the rest. The OnePlus X was a budget phone and everything else was high end.

They’re not really that cheap anymore

I’d rather just buy an iPhone and it’s excellent warranty and support

  • I'm currently using OnePlus 5 and must say its the best phone I've ever had.
    Awaiting op6 eagerly!

  • I have owned a Oneplus One, it was a great phone but the lack of local support ticked me off.
Great hardware though, but I agree that it was a lot cheaper compared to the elite brands than it seems to be now.
Huawei's Honor line now seems to be filling that role. I have a 7X and the new 10 looks great, I am going to England next week and I am looking forward to having a play with one.

    • Those rogue websites have ridiculous prices that are 40% higher than its retail price!

Was interested in the oneplus 6 due to the software, but price wise, after freight forwarding you're looking at about $750 or so and up. For a little extra you can get the Huawei p20 pro, ebay 20% off, TRS if you're travelling and Cashrewards, and get a flagship level camera and 2 year local manufacturer warranty (which is pretty important to me).
