Opinion on HP Envy X360

Hi, I'm looking into updating my old HP laptop and I'm looking into a high performance laptop.

My current laptop is a touch screen, and I want my next one to as well. I also prefer a backlit keyboard. I am aiming at a 14 or 15 inch screen.

I am going to start to work on website development and design work, I also would like something to play modern games on (even if its at medium quality).

I've been looking at getting a 2 in 1 laptop as I am always using my tablet, so with a 2 in 1, I can fold it back and also despite its size, use it as a tablet.

All these requirements get me down to the HP Envy X360 15-BQ100AU 15.6" 2-in-1 Laptop

Before spending almost $2000 on a laptop. I want opinions and possible other suggestions.

  • I don't think you can play modern games on that, the gpu is integrated. While it's a good integrated gpu it's still not good enough for modern games, even on medium. Maybe low if you're lucky.

    • Thanks. Would you know any better recommendations for an x360?

  • The obvious weakness with the BQ100AU is that it only has 256GB SSD, compensated with a 1TB HDD. This will slow things up, even backed by the new AMD processor. Plus I'm not sure I trust AMD in a chassis as thin as this, it must spin like crazy even when running normally let alone if you're mildly gaming or doing design work.

      • I'd look into the HP Spectre x360 instead of the Envy range. I've got last year's version, and it's fantastic. No doubt this year's upgraded versions would run even better (intense multi-tasking etc.) Pretty sure every variant would come with SSD only as well.
