  • Is this better than the 1st Generation Samsung Galaxy Tab S?

My mum's samsung tablet is having battery issues and looking to get her replacement.

Wouldn't buy a 3 year old used tablet if you are worried about battery life, these batteries will be shot

Batteries go for between $46 and $169 (for the one from the instruction video below) on Ebay.

By the time you buy a battery and all this (I guarantee unless you've done this kind of thing before it's going to take more than 14 minutes. Hope you have the tools on hand), you might as well buy a newer tablet.

        Instructions for replacing the battery.

$110 on a 3 year old refurb is not that much of a bargain. But sure you might save $50.

Mostly no, the nexus 10 is 2 years older than the Tab S so its generally slower, also ive seen one in person semi recently and the screen hasnt aged well. Its better than the 2012 nexus 7 but that's not saying much.
Battery life new was apparently better though https://www.notebookcheck.net/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-S-10-5-Tabl…

I'm still using my Nexus 10, the screen beats anything I have looked at, and although slow to boot, handles multi-media with ease, has great sound for a tablet, and can come out of a month's stand-by with 90% battery…

Yes. These were amazing. Still has the highest PPI of any device made if I recall correctly. Reading on this was so nice.

  • I've had one these for 5 years and still going strong.

Do not buy. Far too slow and it actual only has 1GB of usable ram. The other gig is taken up by the graphics card.

The batteries are also known to fail.

Like pixelman, I've had one of these since its initial release. It is a great tablet; I still like mine but I would not recommend buying one now. There are no further OS updates after Lollipop/Android v5 I think. Better to purchase something with regular updates.

That said, if you're after a tablet you won't ask too much of and are prepared to load a custom ROM for OS currency, it might be worth considering.

    • I want a tablet that's sole use is desktop streaming and youtube but will probably be 2m from a power outlet at all times. Further updates aren't going to do me any good, right? Do you think it'll be worth it now? I'm finding it hard to find a bargain with a high resolution for less that $200

  • Can't you buy new from Chuwi and other China brands for this price?

    What year is it?!

    • +4

      1985.

      • username checks out.

  • It is not the cheapest, this seller is selling for $112.9 which will bring down the further after 5% code

  • I still have mine and it works great. Even the battery still holds charge for days (with minor use). It has one of the nicest screens. Surfing the web and reading on this is amazing. And the specs seem low by todays standards, but its easily capable of playing games like The Room. Highly recommend.

    • UI animations stutter in Android > 5.0 and Javascript performance is terrible, which effects many modern websites.

Also, stable custom roms are trying up, making security updates hard to come by.

It's usable if you already own one. But I certainly wouldn't recommend buying one in 2018.

  • The Lineage OS team have recently deprecated the Nexus 10, meaning they have removed all the "official" Lineage OS builds from their website. But for anyone who wants to install the most recent official Lineage OS build that was offered (before it was taken down), it can be found here:

    https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=746163614322262390

I recommend you use the Texas mirror, all the rest seem to fail when downloading

    • How does Lineage OS run on the nexus 10? I'm running the stock 5.1.1.

        Here's the instructions:

        https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/manta/install

If you're not particularly tech savvy, the first time you do this can be a bit daunting. You can get so much more life out of your Android devices if you know how to install custom ROMs on them, though!
