I sell some designs and print ready files freelance, but not many printing places offer A3 card (about 200gsm) for printing on and the ones that do charge quite a bit more per page than vista print. If I had my own A3 printer I could just buy a pack of 100 A3 cardstock for $40 and make my own prints on it, mostly just black text and shapes. It'd also be nice to print my own photos or to make my own proofs before something goes to the printer for a big run. but is $700 too much, even if I printed photos for everyone in my family as well it's still a lot to pay for a printer. I don't get a lot of clients so getting extra value by printing family photos would be a must. I know it's no cheaper than using Big W or Officeworks, but who can be bothered waiting for prints to arrive in the mail or going to the mall for photos.
Canon Pixma Pro 100s (A3+ Photo Printer), Worth $700?

My extended family are all very much into photography, and between us we have 3x different A3 printers. I own the Canon you're looking at, and in my opinion it out performs similar printers from other manufacturers. It does a particularly nice job with black and white photos compared to the Epson I used to use. Only you can decide whether it makes sense for you to buy it, but it IS worth the asking price.
