Best way to get rid of smell in leather seats?

I was doing Uber Saturday night and some bright spark brought his lamb roast and put it in the back seat. It had a tray, towels and everything.

So when we got to the destination, he removed the roast from the seat and Lo behold, grease has escaped and was all over the left back passengers.

Trying to hold my anger, I kept it professional and said just enjoy your night and we can arrange something tomorrow. He gave me his phone number. He offered me $50 but I declined and said I’ll just file a claim with Uber.

He came out wth paper towels and wiped as much of the grease as he could. It left a stain. Went to the nearest OTR to buy some leather wipes and clean it up a bit more because I still wanted to pick some passengers up afterwards.

The next day, it still had a lamb smell so I went to my stepdad and see if he had anything to help. We applied some sort of hydrating cream into the seats and it had some natural ingredients which made it smell a bit like eucalyptus.

Right now I’m sitting in the car and it still smells of lamb.

What’s some good methods I could try to get rid of the smell?

  • Leather Degreaser like this may assist, if there's remnants of grease still remaining. Some details here.

Essential Oils may assist with masking the smell.

Hang a sprig of rosemary from your rear view mirror?

Seriously though.. if the grease has really leached into the leather, you might just have to leave it to air out for a few days, drive around with all windows open for a bit and it should eventually disappear?

  • Pull the seat out and clean under it as well.

  • Smell might be from the foam under the leather not within the leather.

  • Try leatherique
