½ Price: Philips LED 1400 Lumen Globe $7.50 @ Woolworths

850

Likely to be similar to headphonejack's deal last month that had a variety of Phillips LED Globes all at half price. At the moment it's only the 1400 Lumen 13W Cool Daylight BC globe that's in the catalogue.

Don't forget to use discounted wish cards for further savings.

Hmmm…not a fan of cool daylight, but some may like it…I find it too sterile/cold like I'm in a science lab…

      find it too sterile/cold

Should be great for the bedroom if you're married.

      • Don't need mood lighting in the bedroom.

I have the one that switches between cool and warm daylight colour. It's awesome!

    • My wife's an artist so she demands something in the daylight range of temps for any room she is likely to be painting in.

        My wife's an artist

        I think they all are.

1400 Lumen is extremely bright for standard house lighting maybe a double garage or something this would be fine. Not to mention the colour of this bulb is very annoying better of with something around 3000-3500 Kelvin is a much nicer light.

Depends on the size of your room. My living and dining area aren't lit properly by anything that's much lower than that. Even 1,000 lumen feels too low.

      • +2

Yep 1000 lumen is quite low for a living area. This isn't mood lighting after all, it's functional lighting, and 1400 lumens is about right for that.

I agree the colour isnt pretty, but ive found daylight colour temperature great to have in the kitchen. Warm lights make it difficult to determine if you have cooked something enough as the warm light makes things look better than they are.

great to have in the kitchen

Agree, cooler lights look better in laundry as well, makes the white appliances look like a showroom.

For bathrooms, bedrooms and lounge I prefer warm.

    • 1400 too bright?! I find 2000 too low for my study.

I bought a few of these recently when they were on special and damn are they bright! I've got one in the hallway and one out the front and they are mega bright!

Would be too much for a small room.

Bunnings will price beat it by 10%

    • Last time I asked they wouldn't price beat the sausage sandwiches.

  • I bought a Phillips led bulb last month and it seriously kicks butt.
Its the brightest of all the bulbs in the house and perfect for my kitchen.
I think seeing this, I'll be buying a couple more.

      Edison screw?

  • What makes these better than these (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/373751)

    • More lumens

    • And more lumens are only better in some situations

    Pfft… 13W? 18W or go home.

  • I saw lower prices for led bulb at local Aldi today. From memory they we're 13 watt.

    • But is it Philips though? Or some cheap no brand rubbish?

Low cost LED globes use cheap switching power supply made of nasty components that will fail well before the actual light emitting diodes would, resulting the entire globe useless.

The brand doesn't mean much. Some complained about flicker on these. Also the box says you can't have them in enclosed fittings. The way they're put together if you look carefully also looks pretty cheap. The Mirabella ones I got from Coles look better constructed, which I didn't expect.

        • mirabellas have a high failure rate as experienced by many posters on ozb.

    • $2.99 @Aldi for 6/11/13/15W. Went on sale Saturday, so may be little stock left.

My local Bunnings don't stock cheap Click or Osram mentioned in deals.

Something to keep in mind is that the temp for these is 6500K. Which is a pretty harsh, arguably unnatural home light that's not to everyone's liking.

Coles currently have the Mirabella 1400 lumen for $8 which are 4000K and I personally think they produce a nicer temp light that's more neutral if you're not a fan of the lower temp yellow lights. Their range is also quite good. The 800 lumen ones work well for bathrooms, 1000 for bedrooms and the 1400 for larger living areas.
