[AMA] I Found out about a Competition through OzBargain and Won a Car

so back in 2015 there was a carsales competition where you had to update their new function "My Garage" with your cars and you go into a free competition to win a Peugeot RCZ

I entered. Forgot about it and got a phone call that I had won

      The prize package was $66000. which included the price of the car, stamp duty, on roads and comprehensive insurance

      i asked the dealership if they would buy the car off me pre delivery and they said no. It was a 2013 model with 10km on it but thats because the car was not popular and they had alot of stock they couldn't sell. Hence why they wouldn't buy it back.

      I drove it for 9 months since it was free rego and insurance and put about 3000km on it as i had 2 other cars and ended up selling it for $37,500

          Well they were selling 2013 “brand new” ones for $50k driveaway when I won. The $66k is their rrp and makes the prize seem greater

          Used 2010 ones are going for $15k these days which I think is a great price for such a unique looking car

    This gives me hope.. I have entered so many competitions over the years sometimes I feel like it's work and I'm a robot.

      This is probably one of the first 5 competitions I’ve entered. I’ve since entered everything I see and have won nothing

      I've stopped entering the competitions because it was time consuming, despite I once won a fancy canon camera and trip to Sydney for that light show they put on. Maybe I'll go back to competitions and stop reading the forums :)

      Good by Peugeot standards but still a long way to go to compete with ts German rivals

      One of the roof lining clips broke and the roof lining would flap about if you drove with the windows open

      Rattles throughout the car

      Satnav/entertainment unit would freeze at times

      All this within 9 months and 3000km

        They never seem to put any decent hardware into satnav. A pitty when processors aren't that expensive if you're buying a million of them.

    I also was fortunate like you.

    The car RRPd for 41k. I got just under 30k for it with 10km (TEN)
    I gave up selling privately and sold it to one of those "we buy cars from you" people.

      Yeah it was still brand new and never registered before with 10km on the clock. But they didn’t make any after 2013 in aus and were trying to get rid of old stock

    How come you didn't register your win to get the comp winner badge then?

        In the comp page itself once you click mark as entered, after the comp closes you can select mark as winner.

        There's no requirements, you could just lie to get the badge I'm pretty sure, but if you do win a comp that you posted on OzBargain it is nice to do so, don't have to though.

      So when they rang me. It was an Indian girl named priya from memory

      And when she rang and said hi this is Priya from Carsales how are you. I instantly remembered I entered a comp. then my mind raced to find other reasons Carsales would call me and I came up with none. So I just said “I won something didn’t I”

      Then she said. Do you remember entering a competition about 2 months ago for a brand new Peugeot RCZ?

      I said I do now. So I won?

      She said congratulations

      And then I told my wife and she said I’m being scammed.

        crap… if i entered and won.. and i got a call from anyone with an indian voice. my initial instinct is always to just immediately hand up. it would have been redrawn. now im not going to be able to stop thinking about all the things i might have won, then lost

          Whenever my wife receives an anonymous call, she answers "Did I win something?" and hangs up if they hesitate.

    was wondering about winners from ozb competitions. Big thanks to all the competition community.

    1. When winners are announced, do you receive an email with a specific header?
    2. I am not active on the twitter I use, or twitch. My gmail gets emails with notifications. Do you get notification via emails?
    3. There are quick ways to get through all the click requirements to enter. Do we get disqualified if we havent (for example) subscribed to youtube?

    Congrats on the car win. I hope you continue entering and participating in competitions. your news supports the competition community well!
