Microsoft Home and Student 2016 - Cheapest Place To Buy?

Where is the cheapest place to get legitimate Microsoft Home and Student 2016.

I'm not a student or teacher, but I have heard that Alumni can get it for free (but no idea if that applies to all educational facilities or how to prove Alumni status to be eligible for free offer).

I'm aware that MSY sells it for about ~$155

As we are looking to get the product ASAP, digital download might be preferred.

I noticed that you can also download Office 2016 if your employer has Office365 (depending on the Office365 subscription that your work has).

          @Givemethemoney:

No I don’t think so. It’s part of their licensing deal with Microsoft. The HUP is usually available from large employers with large volume based licenses.

“The Home Use Program is a Software Assurance benefit available to Microsoft volume licensing customers with active Software Assurance coverage on their Office applications. Employees who use the covered licenses at work are eligible to purchase these Office applications for use on a personal device during the term of their employment.

Eligible employees are allowed to purchase a single license of each product available according to the terms of their organization’s Software Assurance benefit.”

My employer doesn't use Microsoft volume licensing, does anyone have this arrangement at work?

Office can be found very cheap on eBay for a key that will activate fine but is in a grey area of licensing. I've been using it for a while with no problems.

    Example:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Microsoft-Office-2016-Profession…

    • Op wants a legitimate copy of Office. The keys they are selling are from a keygen using the leaked MSDN key database.

      • Why would they need to use a keygen if the keys were leaked? Why wouldn't they have stopped all those leaked codes for the last few years?

I've been purchasing Windows and Office keys this way for many years on many machines and I've never had a problem.

Why spend more? This is a bargain site after all.

        • Do you know what an MSDN key is? If you want proof, contact Microsoft and tell them to verify your product key.
Using the key they provide is no different than going on the pirate bay and downloading a copy there.
(This is a bargain website but it does not support obtaining deals illegally.)
What these sellers do are Hijack people accounts and then sell the keys there. Once the keys are banned they will simply stop and wait a few
months then upload new keys or create a new account.

Edit: Since you edited your comment. Since it is part of an MSDN batch, they simply can't disable all MSDN keys since. Otherwise other business won't have access to them.

        • @No Username:

The current machine I am on is using a MSDN Windows 7 code from 2011 when I completed an IT course. It's been upgraded to W10 pro over the years. My laptop is using a W10 Pro code purchased from the cheapest allkeyshop.com link half a year ago.

MSDN codes are unique. I paid my classmates at the time for their codes and they were all unique.

It doesn't matter to me if it's a OEM, MSDN or retail code if it works like a retail code - and these keys work like retail codes - not like a preactivated torrent as you are suggesting.

So in the same post you say that the codes get banned (never happened to me or the other people I know who have bought MS keys this way over the years), but then you go further on to say that they codes don't get banned because it's too hard for MS to do so. Which is it, sonny Jim?

To suggest that purchasing a key from these types of sellers, when you are installing software from MS servers with a MS activation code, is the same as downloading a pirated copy from a torrent - is further than hyperbole, it's wrong.

        • @c0balt: So are you saying that in 2011. You received an MSDN key from your course or that you got one on eBay?

OEM keys are for public use, MSDN are for developers.

Codes do get banned based on leaked prefixes. It just a matter of time on whether Microsoft detects them or not.

Edit: You should also really add a footnote for you edits because after I comment something your comments change or gets updated.

        • @No Username:

I was very clear where I got it from when you asked had I any experience with MSDN programs.

MSDN keys are for developers & education. They were unique and not batched as you suggested.

I'm having a very hard time finding congruency with your arguments. You are now providing a link to a person who had their MSDN Windows 7 code cancelled when before you earlier wrote that Microsfot don't do it because it's too hard. The constant flipping between terminology and now you finding links that go against your earlier statements makes it impossible to find something of substance in your argument.

We can argue until the cows come home. It's been done for many years on this topic. Meanwhile those who purchased cheap keys have had many years of use.

You do realise that posts can't be edited after you reply to them, yeah? What is wrong with you?

        • @c0balt: When MSDN are distributed they have a prefix associated with the product key. The prefix identifies the company. Just like a MAC address or IMEI.

The link for the Windows 7, talks about how people should stay away from cheap eBay keys. As the keys sold will soon be blacklisted. Because the keys distributed violated their terms of conditions.

Sometimes if you're lucky the key will work for a long time. Sometimes it will be blacklisted.

There no need to be mad. If you really want hard evidence. Contact Microsoft over the phone or Live chat and they will happily verify for you whether this is a genuine seller or not.

In the past, I have purchased, Visio and Project 2016 using eBay and they did work for awhile until I had to uninstall all office products since it was x32 and I needed x64 for Visual Basic Database Engine. When I went to use the product key again to redownload an x64 version the key was revoked and said to contact Microsoft.

Microsoft said that these keys have been blacklisted as the prefix has violated the TOC.

To clarify about the working status. The keys will work. But they are illegal. If the keys are blacklisted you won't be able to reinstall the product. In my first comment, I never said that you can't use the product. I just said that it was an illegal method of getting it.

To clarify the edited comments. When I first read your comment you wrote something different. I then replied to your comment to which when the page refreshed your comment had changed. You then did it again to your second comment. Which is why I suggested that if you edit your comment you should add an Edit tag to not confuse other readers.

  • If it's an option: school and uni students get Microsoft 365 for free. Login once and it's a set and forget thing. Just have to find someone to do that for you. I'm using my sister's school login on the 3 computers we have at home. When she graduates uni 3-4 years later, i'll ask a cousin to login with their kid's ID.

    • My kids are too young for school.

Does anyone with a .edu.au email address know how to claim the free Office?

      • Login through your uni email (for me it was Outlook accessible through UTS' website) and there should be an option to download Microsoft 365 from there. No login required if you download through there, just install the program and it's good to go. Good luck!

  • If you only need one copy ask a friend/family that is a student. With the HUP you are allowed to install on two computers (technically a laptop and desktop according to the T&Cs).

  • Through the University or School

  • With the Office 2016 which you can download via the employer Office 365 login (which requires you to stay logged in to your Office 365 Account), how can you set the Office Properties (author, company, etc) so that it doesn't have employer details?
