Bathroom Renovation Recommendations in Sydney's East

Gday.

My tenants may be moving out of the place I once called home and would like to move back one day, but for now it shall be re-tenanted afterwards. It's a 1960's apartment that had the carpets changed to wood and the kitchen done up nicely in early 2000s - however the bathroom and separate toilet has remained in the original condition - and is looking tired.

I am looking for any recommendations for people that can arrange it all to be done? Ie: I don't want to seek out a plumber, a tiler, an electrician, etc individually.

I went to Bunnings and saw that materials were affordable there. Example: An OK toilet bowl+cistern for $200
I want to Harvey Norman and saw they were thrice the price or more! Example: An OK toilet bowl+cistern for $800!

The Bunnings people won't recommend anyone.
The Harvey Norman will do everything, for roughly $30k!

Are there any recommendations for people that'll nuke out the bathroom and replace it with something new - and at a price that doesn't involve me paying $800 for a toilet or $1500 for a sink and vanity? I'm happy to go around to Bunnings to pick out the items and load them in the car and take them to the Unit.

Thank you.

  • I just went through it myself.
    It's not easy or cheap.

The toilet is by far not the main cost item
I bought Mirana Nano Tech Wall Faced Toilet Suite and I am happy with it.

    I highly recommend:

    1. Hire a company who only specializes in demolition
    2. Hire a good plumber (make sure to get a lot of quotes on this one)
    3. Hire a good tiler
    • Gday
Yes the toilet is not the most expensive, it was just an example of the HN toilets being 3x Bunnings or more.

With your three bullet points, do you mean that I should look for a good one of each entity separately?
I'll check out the website. It seems to have a wide range.

    • Thanks. I shall have a look

  • Going through a bathroom reno company will cost at least 20k. You're paying for project management whereas if you organise everything yourself it will be much cheaper.

    • Hmm.
I may look into doing it all myself.
Being an apartment, I may want someone else to be liable for any problems :)

  • I usually post my renovations on the Master Builders website, but I’m in Victoria so I can’t offer specific builders.
    http://www.mbansw.asn.au
    http://www.mbansw.asn.au/Find-a-Master-Builder/

Builders who are interested will contact you to provide a quote.

You need a very clear idea on what you want before you start and look for value for money rather than cheap because installation will be more expensive than tiles, toilets, basins, taps etc.

    • How does the mbansw compare to https://www.homeimprovementpages.com.au/ as recommended by the Bunnings people? Or is it a similar service?

Yes I am conscious of value for money vs tightwad.
Being a tightwad can result in further pain in the future. I've learnt that lesson previously.

      Thank you.

      • I’ve only used the Victorian one and have found good builders each time. They are backed by the Master Builders association so there is a procedure for resolution of issues and, hopefully, they weed out providers with poor records. I’ve never had to go into arbitration.

We had properly structured contracts with a defined payment schedule and lists of products to be provided. I haven’t used Bunnings service, so can’t comment, but nothing stops you looking at multiple sources.

We converted our warehouse in 1994 and people still comment on how well the place is designed. The kitchen and bathroom need some work done, due to wear and tear, but the design hasn’t dated. The bathroom we went black and white and use towels, etc. to provide contrast. Also tile a fair way up the wall, it looks better than painted wall areas. A big mirror makes it look spacious and light and lots of storage.

        • Gday.

          I love a good contract!

          Thanks for being helpful
