[VIC] Optus NBN (<10Mbps) vs TPG NBN (~40Mbps) in Narre Warren

I was with TPG NBN for 2 years, and then decided to switch to Optus NBN since I want to consolidate all my services (2 mobile phone lines, and 1 home broadband), and I wanted acess to ESPN via Fetch TV. The speed has slowed drastically. Previously, I average around 40Mbps, but now, I get less than 10Mbps. I was on TPG NBN50 ($70/month), and now I'm on Optus SpeedPack 3 NBN50 (50Mbps) ($80/month). The only difference is service provider, router, and NBN modem.

Why are the speeds so significantly different? I've lodged a complaint to Optus. I don't even mind cancelling my contract with Optus because speed is more important that ESPN and Fetch TV. Can I cancel the contract? Can I bring in ACCC since they aren't delivering what I am contracted them with?

Thanks!

nbn minimum guarantee is 12. soon to be 25. so yes you have ground to cancel . if you have fttn and this is happening during off peak it is probably nothing to do with optus but still. you contact tio

    • May I know what is "fttn", and "tio"?

Previously, with TPG, throughout the day, I have no issues at all. But now that I'm with Optus, it is slow even in the morning at 10-12pm.

      Thanks!

      • fibre to the node.uses copper network.
where is your modem/router connected to?
        into a socket - fttn
into another modem (black) - hfc
into another modem fixed too the wall- fttp

Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman complain to them

        • Foxtel point on wall to black NBN modem to white Optus router (WiFi/LAN)

        • @TeesAndSuchAustralia: it seems like you're on a 12/1 plan. hfc should normally be getting close to the full 50 as you had with tpg so it's an rsp issue
lodge a complaint and see it magically fixed

    • NBN minimum guarantee is 12??? Soon to be 25???? WOW!

Is that for fixed wireless too? I'm not having a go at you, just this NBN bullsh1t that has been cast upon us since the change of government.

I went FW NBN from 8MB ADSL only for financial reasons, free DSL on active phone to no copper phone and fixed wireless, either equaled ~$60/month. Yes, I'm out bushish.

At least I got reasonable DSL speeds but now…. - here's a link to a test just done: http://www.speedtest.net/result/7302997232

What I would give to get 12 download.

      • not sure about the wireless options but for hfc fttp fttn fttb and fttc it definitely is.

I would stab someone in the face for 10MBPS. I'm just around the corner from you in Belgrave and I allegedly get 4.4MBPS down according to speedtest.net but any game/torrent/file I'm downloading never gets above 550kbps.

    • Mbps not the same as MBps. dived that sh!t by 8 and it sounds about right
