NetGear X6 Tri-Band Router $237 (Was $327, Original $437) @ Officeworks

140

This was seen at OW, Croydon SA. Don't know about other stores.

And can't see the deal posted online at OfficeWorks.
A quick price check here tells this info worthwhile.

An impulse desire for a Google Chromecast Ultra saw me at the Croyden; SA- OW the other day.

While walking around, hoping that desire would go away, I came across to these Router clearances.
I have a Netgear D7000, with failed 2.4 band. 5GHz works fine. I patched that band from the 7000 with a Telstra modem/router from the green strip.

Lots of 2.4 dependent SonOffs, Broadlinks in this household. So was thinking of cutting corners to get "The Router"- Which I still think is the X10. What do you guys think? This is a household just the other month upgraded to 1000 GB 10/50. To satiate data hunger. The Ultra I went to the OW for, would be an addition, leeching onto a bedroom TV.

I would really love a X10 deal.

But, as I post this… the feeling grows strong. The X6 would get me.

check power consumption of some of these top end routers …. my c3150 came with. 60w power pack , my old router vr600 had a 12w power pack ……
you put led bulbs in the house to save power and then the router burns as much as an old incandescent bulb ….. i always turn mine off when i go to work during the week.

If it's sitting there doing nothing it's not drawing 60W and will only be using maximum power draw with a lot of activity.

      • touch them and feel the heat in the morning …..

they still draw a lot of power as they have to send beacons on wireless regardless and the chips still have to do a lot of housekeeping, touch one one and you will feel how hot they get even in standby.

they should publish power consumption figures under certain conditions with these things.

they went crazy on save energy by turning off devices in standby eg tv yet these routers run 24x7 in most instances even when people are asleep.

i was amazed how much heavier and warmer my c3100 was than my existing vr600, huge heatsinks on those broadcom wireless chips.

  • What’s better the nighthawk of D-Link one?

      Anything is better than dlink

    • I have trouble with my current NetGear D7000 Nighthawk.

The 2.4 band conks out every 5 minutes. Need restart. Resolved it with another Telstra router running off the D7000 just to supply the 2.4.

The 2.4 band issues with NetGear routers are all over the Internet, from as far back as 2015. Many iterations of firmware later, still remains unresolved to this day. Some later day posts suggest Google Home on these networks as causing some incompatibility, leading to this issue.

      • I find recently that my D-Link routers WiFi has issues with my iPhones, that’s all I use WiFi for that and iPad.

I need to go to iPhone settings and turn off WiFi and then back on and it works again, so is this the router issue or the iPhones. There is 3 iPhones and 1 iPad and all have this same issue with the same fix

      • Tell me about it. I replaced my last router (which was playing up within the warranty period, giving me a store credit for a replacement) with a D7000, and it's been a giant pain in the ass. Really disappointed after it had so many positive reviews online, including from PC Authority, etc. The 2.4GHz is shit house, and the 5GHz also drops out on a regular basis. I ended up hooking up a powerpoint timer to reset my modem each night, which helped a little, but not a lot. I suspect that the issues with this router are made worse with a high number of wireless clients (there's easily over a dozen devices connected to my wifi at any one time, although there'd generally only be two or three actively pulling down data at any one time).

I've completely given up on consumer networking gear now. Next financial year I'm looking to drop the money on some Ubiquiti gear. In the long run, I don't think it'll be more expensive than replacing routers every 2-3 years.

        • Ubiquiti is not as good as I expected. installed 3 Pro in the office.
Runs ok in the office. soon you step out of office. still got 2 bars but doesn't transfer any data ( just keep loading).

having R8000 over 5 years at home. solid WIFI signal inside out, having trouble once, updated firmware and reset all setting. works again.

was told ASUS is good thing to try.

  • any deals in perth wa?
