Hey guys
My brother is getting fttn and just bought this Asus ac68u because it was on the approved list of modem routers for fttn on whirlpool.

Anyway now that it has arrived were wondering if it is only a router, not a modem router and might not work for his fttn.

Definitely just a router. I have one.
"RT" in the model name of the ASUS RT-AC68U tells you it is a router
"DSL" for the DSL-AC68U is the VDSL version, which combines both the capabilities of the AC68U with a VDSL capable modem.
So you have the wrong device. Maybe return it and get it swapped out for the VDSL variant.
Or you can buy one of the "Working basic modem/routers" listed under the whirlpool wiki.
These modems are useful to use in "bridge" mode to a separate router with more advanced features.

the "RT AC68U" is a router.
the "DSL AC68U" is a router modem.
And dang someone beat me to a reply, while I was on the phone to Asus getting a warranty claim made for my DSL AC68U ….. wifi drops out frequently
Pretty sure anyone is better than Optus customer service. I tell them I have internet issues in the live chat thing then they run their test and it disconnects me and when I connect back to see what they have found in their test they tell me they can't transfer me to the person I was just talking to and that they will run the test again which in result disconnects me again.. and it's just a cycle of hell… I've also tried just using my 4g on my phone but they insisted that I have to use a computer plugged into the router to be able to check speeds and that I can't use a phone. :/
the word modem appears once only on that first link, doesn't look like it is a modem.
