Does this game have a season pass (not this deal, just in general). I am seriously considering preordering the Game with all dlc. The hype is real.

    • +1

They havent announced anything about a season pass so far. From recent memory, I fail to recall a rockstar game having a season pass in it.

      • Not that I’ve seen - all stores seem to just have the regular Game on offer only

      • Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire both had DLC releases via their 'Rockstar Pass'. Granted those games were released 6-7 years ago and RDR is one of their bigger franchises, however they haven't released many new titles since then to conclusively say that a Rockstar Pass won't be done again in the future.

      • +7

Rockstar make far more money by selling shark cards for new content. If this is anything like GTA V then expect the vanilla offline game to never get any updates and for all new content to be purchased with in game currency on the online only version. And you'll have to grind for 50 hours to get a matching set of clothes or pay $100 in shark cards to just buy it.

        • Here's hoping Red Dead stays a bit more simple.

    • There is talk of a collector's edition. Whether that version includes a season pass, remains to be seen.

More details expected at or around E3 time.

    • +3

Doubt it. I think they'll go the GTA model

    • +2

A lot of people forget Red Dead Redemption itself had quite a lot of DLC - 3 main 'packs' including Undead Nightmare which was a weird but cool detour, and from memory was pretty pricey for its day (like $15-20)

      • +5

Yes back in the good old days when GTA got dlc like Balad of Gay Tony etc. Damn I miss new GTA game story content. Online I have zero interest in. Sigh

  • +13

I think I'll wait till release as BigW and Target often sell games at this price.

  • +4

I will wait closer to the date and see what the competitors whip up, thanks but no thanks… yet.

  • +3

Spewing it's not coming to PC… I bought a second hand xbox just for the first one which died from rrod before I could finish it… Won't be buying a console 2nd time around.

    • Yea I wouldn't buy an XBOX again, given that they are mostly pc/xbox cross platform anyway, it's only worth it getting a PS, then you got the best of both worlds, PC and Xbox games on PC, and all the PS4 exclusives on PS!

    • Not coming at all? :'(

  • +3

oct is too far off, $69 isn't tempting enough, big w etc has the tendency to do $69 at launch date, such as god of war.

    • Yep, pretty sure GTA V launched at this price as well

  • +3

After how much money GTA Online made, I'd be very hesitant to preorder this until you actually see what you're getting.

    • +1
    • Rockstar has not betrayed us… yet

      • +3

Really? Do you not remember the promised GTA V single player content that was supposed to come after launch, only to never be seen?

Idiots who pay for Shark Cards have (profanity) it up for the rest of us. All they need is enough single player content on release to get good reviews, and then they'll never consider it again for the life of the game.

        • +2

And their excuse was lack of resources. When you have a game making literal billions of dollars, insufficient resources isn't much of an excuse. What it comes down to is they could get a much better return on their investment by skipping on extra single player content, and instead focusing on GTA Online to drive more Shark Card sales. And they simply didn't give a (profanity) about promises made regarding extra single player missions.

@kapone: you're mad at Rockstar for not releasing DLC? I bet you buy season passes lol

    • Rockstar might be the one of the only few game devs left which have quality assured on release

    • +1

Take Two thinks they're under-monetising us and wants to shove even more microtransactions into their games. I played lots of GTA:O and never spent a cent on microtransactions, but the ingame prices and the grindiness they forced everything to be was ridiculous for anyone not buying Shark Cards.

But do they delivery on the date of the launch?

    • +1

I preordered Donkey Kong on Switch with Amazon 20 - release was last Friday, and it should arrive today, according to tracking.

      • JB HiFi sends it before release day.

  • -1

    Yuck… no PC version.

    • -3

      Ewww PC

      • i mainly play on consoles, except for games which have a low fov, which gives me a headache. thats when i play on pc.

    • How is this surprising? RDR1 never came to PC and the Rockstar games that do are usually a good 6-18 months late.

  • +4

Delivery for God Of War was slow, people who paid extra for express still didn't receive it until after the weekend. I wasn't bothered but I would be for RDR2.

  • The first one was great. It really gave you the feeling of being alone in the wild West. Now go buy 75" TV

  • +1

Isn't release a Friday? Considerable chance delivery may not arrive on Friday and then you are without for a few days. I will wait for other retailers.

  • +1

If you want the game on release day then don't preorder for delivery. I've been stung in the past waiting for delivery for new games. There will be brick n mortar stores that will match this price.

  • If a retailer matches, I'll cancel the Amazon.

  • I wouldn't pre-order from Amazon again, game came days after release, my friends would receive their JBHIFI orders the day of release or day before release.

  • The real cost is $69.99*1.015 (Approximate opportunity cost of cash).

    Can wait.

  • This sequel has to live up to a BIG NAME. Hope it does justice.
Games like Red Dead 2 and Last of Us 2 will sell better than any other game just because of the amazing legacy they will try to imitate or better

  • +14

Preordering so early is a terrible idea. There is no upside only negatives.

They will not run out of physical copies of RDR2

You are limiting your choices to go with another retailer who might offer a bonus for the same price (might have already shipped then too late to cancel)

The game could be a let down

You are only telling Rockstar that no matter what they do, you will buy it, even if it's a steaming pile of poop.

Don't preorder until the media embargo is lifted.

    When will people learn

    • +2

      Never, so don't bother

    • +1

Especially in these recent years , most gaming sequel turned out to be dissapointing.
      Very high risk

      • +1

8 years in development, I would hope it's good.

  • +8

    Don't fkn preorder games!

  • +3

wait for reviews peeps. these days everything is full of micro transactions.

  • Rockstar is the only Publisher that has a massive Grudge against PC, mainly because they want to curb the PC Download losses in any way while they rip young kids for in-game purchases.

  • +1

For those wanting or disappointed in a lack of PC version, it might be worth waiting a few months to a year for it. That is if you can resist the hype/excitement.

It would be very peculiar for them not to release one since most of their other titles are on PC too. IIRC the first red dead wasn't ported to PC because the code was messed up and not worth salvaging for a PC port.

    • -1

As someone heavily into the Rockstar franchise I agree with that assessment. They might not had PC in mind when they built it but if it was not too hard to port later they are not going to say no to a boatload of money in PC sales despite their disdain for PC in general (ever since blaming PC modders for their mishandling of the Hot Coffee controversy)

They put a lot of work into their engine to get it working fantastic on the PC ever since Max Payne 3 and again for GTA V Enhanced that I don't think that they will let PC support slip away again. They have just put too much effort into it this time around.

I have my fingers crossed for a PC release 12-18 months later and by that time also crossing fingers for a complete remaster of RDR inside the RDR2 engine as a DLC.

RDR map was already ported to GTA V engine by PC modders before TTWO Legal shut it down so it is possible, and with RDR2 sharing a location with RDR I'm sure there would be crossover of game assets to reuse.

  • Thanks! Preordered :)

  • Thanks OP. Used "AMAZON20" to score a free copy of the original RDR with the preorder.

  • Use this method to get it for $60
