Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Link Purifer - Worth it?

Hi all.

Tossing up buying a Dyson Hot + Cool Link Purifier with Bing Lee's 13% Deal (Its already marked down prior to discount going live). Just want to hear from anyone who owns one, or has had experience with one; Is it worth the price? Pros & Cons? I mainly want to use it in winter for heating, but the purifier sounds handy for colds, allergies and pollen. Or is it better to buy a heater?

Thanks!

We had it for a year. As most multi functional devices it’s not very good as a heat or a fan (not sure you really need a purifier in Australia). Without the remote or the app can do much with it.

We have a toddler and it’s in his room. The device is simple (not many buttons) and safe to leave with the toddler. The room is small room so it can heat it. In larger space i would only use as directional heater. The cool mode (fan only) is not very powerfull and gets noisy at higher settings but can be used to softly move the air around the room during summer. The app is handy as you can control the device from your phone, check temperature and history. The only time we could feel the difference with the purifier was during the last bushfire.

Would I buy again (paid $425)? For the little one, yes. For adults and heating only, no.

    • Thanks for your comment, it is very much appreciated!

Will have to look somewhere else for a heater this winter; thought it would be much better considering the price tag.

      Thank again :)

A heater and fan combo at that price, I'd expect it to massage me to sleep every night!

    • Dyson isn't exactly a good value proposition.

  • I've bought one for myself, and then one for my parents. Similar to sinegar above, the key draw for us was it's ability to be very toddler-safe since there's no accessible fan blades, not many buttons, can be controlled remotely via app, temperature/humidity and timer/etc can all be done by app, etc. It works great for this purpose. The heating also works well especially during this past month.

In terms of air purifier, I've been a huge fan of these since I used to live in Singapore where there was regular smog/etc and I have asthma which often played up, and we also have a dog with pet dander around… the air purifiers helped tremendously with my sleep at night and just my general wellbeing, and then when we moved back to Sydney and brought them with us, they proved to be very helpful each time there was a bushfire season. At the very least, if you just want a fan to help circulate air, you may as well get it purified right?

Re price, if you check OzBargain, there's been plenty of sales on these in the past when they were in the $400-$500 range and sometimes with a bonus filter (worth $100). That's what led us to buy this as we had previously had a basic Dyson heater/cooler (non smart, non purifier) and when we had the young newborn, we wanted to make sure the air was as clean as possible but also safe for young children.

With the recent shortages though, there were used models selling above this, and last I checked, Dyson (and the resellers like JB, Myer, etc) were totally out of stock of these Australia-wide if you wanted the cool/heater combo units. At <$500 I think it's a worthwhile purchase and compared to say our Breville Air Rounder Plus which was low $300's, I'd pay more for the Dyson brand/app/bladeless… but if it was more than $500 I probably would say get something else unless you absolutely must have the bladeless and app (such as for a toddler's room).

EDIT: Just realised this is a really old post… but hey, it might still help people in 2022!
